Hello Dentistry and Dental Hygiene Classes, Please find attached a list of courses and Course Coordinators which includes a listing of Student Reps (3 per course) for Student Course Evaluation. Also attached is some further information on the course evaluation process as well as a form that needs to be completed for each course. The College/School relies on student feedback to continually improve our course delivery. Please contact your Course Coordinator for any course that you have been assigned to as an evaluator (working on behalf of the entire class) and make arrangements to meet to discuss the course prior to the end of term. Spanned courses (courses that continue into Winter term) do not need evaluation until the end of Winter term. Thank you for your attention to this matter. SDH Update

This e-mail is being sent on behalf of Director, School of Dental Hygiene, Mary Bertone; Hello SDH students and faculty, On Tuesday, the 24th of February 2026, the Board of Governors approved naming the School of Dental Hygiene as the Cholakis School of Dental Hygiene. A formal announcement will be made by late fall. With this, the SDH will have an endowment fund of $2.5 million established over the next 10 years. This donation is on behalf of Dr. Ernest Cholakis. Purpose of the Endowment Fund: To support strategic initiatives that promote research and learning at the Cholakis School of Dental Hygiene within the Dr. Gerald Niznick College of Dentistry. Initiatives that may be supported through the fund include, but are not limited to: • Community outreach and engagement initiatives reflecting the School’s commitment to public service and oral health promotion • Equipment and capital expenditures to improve clinical and teaching infrastructure • Professional development and travel opportunities for faculty, staff, and students • Recruitment and retention initiatives, including support for new hires and emerging scholars • Support for Indigenous students and scholars, including mentorship, bursaries, and culturally informed programming • Curriculum innovation and pilot projects that enhance teaching and learning Additionally, on Monday, February 23rd, the Dental College Council approved the proposals for the three-year Bachelor of Science and the four-year Honours in Dental Hygiene to be submitted to the Rady Faculty of Health Sciences Executive Council for review. Susan Petras Connect with Health Profession Students to Explore Oral Health-Health As a health profession student we invite you to participate in a pilot of a novel initiative titled: Team-Based Collaborative Experiential Learning (TBCEL): From Head to Toes The initiative offers a unique opportunity to engage in team-based learning with students from other health disciplines and patients, focusing on the integration of oral and overall health. Though oral health is integral to overall health, it is often underrepresented in non-oral health professional education. This pilot offers you the opportunity to explore the relationship in a collaborative manner with fellow health profession students in an experiential learning practice setting. We hope you join us and help interprofessional education planners gain insights into future opportunities promoting wholistic healthcare. A short information session about the pilot will be held on Monday, Feb 23, 12:15-12:45 PM in Merkley. These will take place between February and end of March/early April. · Team Focus Group (via UM Zoom during a noon hour; no more than 80 minutes). This will take place after the second patient meeting and before the end of April/beginning of May. The TBCEL is an opportunity to volunteer in helping develop quality interprofessional education sessions for the Rady Faculty of Health Sciences students. Additionally, those who maintain portfolios, it is an opportunity to reflect on a novel interprofessional collaboration experience. URGENT - OHAF UPDATE REQUIRED

Dental hygiene and dental students, The good news is that you have all been doing a great job at using the OHAF funds to support patient care and your learning. You are making a tremendous impact on the oral health of many people within our community that otherwise would not have received care. We are now at a point where the OHAF fund is depleting rapidly, and I am no longer able to approve any further OHAF patient funding requests until we have more information. I have overcommitted the OHAF funds with the expectation that not all of the treatment would ultimately be completed. We now need to know what treatment that has been approved will not be moving forward so that we can have a clearer financial view of what monies we have remaining until 31 March. This update will help ensure that any committed funds from approved treatment can be redirected to other student requests for funding now. We need to know what treatment that has ALREADY been approved will NOT be proceeding. Please open the link below and follow the directions exactly. Time is critical as there are many students still requesting OHAF funding, review the document and update for each of your patients by Monday 16 Feb 2026 at 4pm. For those who do not update their patient profile we will assume that you no longer need the funding for your patient and suspend funding for any treatment that has not be started.
