Hello Dentistry and Dental Hygiene Classes, Please find attached a list of courses and Course Coordinators which includes a listing of Student Reps (3 per course) for Student Course Evaluation. Also attached is some further information on the course evaluation process as well as a form that needs to be completed for each course. The College/School relies on student feedback to continually improve our course delivery. Please contact your Course Coordinator for any course that you have been assigned to as an evaluator (working on behalf of the entire class) and make arrangements to meet to discuss the course prior to the end of term. Spanned courses (courses that continue into Winter term) do not need evaluation until the end of Winter term. Thank you for your attention to this matter. To all students, 1. OHAF update - the OHAF grant has been extended. What does this mean? * Any OHAF application that HAS BEEN APPROVED - you have until the end of this academic year to complete treatment - you do not need to have treatment completed by 31 March as was the case before the grant extension. You have until the end of this academic year (May 2026). * BUT - We have NOT been given any more funding, so OHAF applications that have not been approved to date will still NOT be approved. If you have submitted and OHAF application and it has NOT BEEN APPROVED I would recommend that you speak with the applicable course coordinator to see if other funding opportunities might be possible (endowment funds). 2. As we get closer to the end of the academic year be reminded that it is the student's responsibility to follow up with their patients regarding any outstanding balances on the patient account. 3. We will continue to screen patients. When the front desk is booking the screening appointments they are letting the potential patients know that they will not be assigned to a dental/dental hygiene student until the fall and thus if they have a dental emergency they must seek treatment in a private practice office until they are assigned to a student in the fall 2026. Hi guys. I hope you all are doing great. In relation to the extracted teeth, you will need to collect 1st mandibular or 1st maxillary molars. Second max/mand molars might be considered if they have at least 3 canals. You will need one molar, however it is better to have more than one just in case.......More options more possibilities to choose an easy tooth to perform a root canal treatment. As it was discussed last week, the teeth will be collected on March 25th. The extracted teeth used in this course should have a relatively intact clinical crown (the tooth may be previously restored) and completely formed apex. Usually, there is time to mount the teeth and take radiographs on the last lab day (April 8th). However, it is variable depending on each one's progress. Therefore, if you prefer to take x-rays before that day to choose the best tooth is totally fine. If you already have some extracted molars, store them in a water/bleach solution (5:1 water:bleach). However, please allow the teeth to dry at room temperature 24-48 hrs before the day of collecting. In other words, let the teeth dry by March 23-24. This is because you must label your teeth according to the number in the attached list (use a fine-tipped marker). E.g: If Emma (# 17 in the list) collects 4 teeth, so there should be 4 teeth labeled with # 17. All the teeth will be in the same flask, so labeling them is the only way to recognize them. They require the preparation of another examination, scheduling of a testing location, and the assignment of faculty to proctor the exam. The different date has the potential to afford an unfair advantage to a student. The Course Coordinator may, at his/her discretion, choose to alter the format of a re-administered examination to accommodate the above concerns. A re-administered examination may include one or a combination of short answer, essay, or multiple-choice questions, and can be in either oral or written format. Students are expected to write examinations on the scheduled dates. Students with unexcused examination absences will be given a mark of zero ('0') for the exam. To obtain a deferral for an examination, students must give notice of the absence to the Instructor, Course Coordinator, and the Dean's Office (absent(a)umanitoba.ca<mailto:absent@umanitoba.ca>) of the absence prior to the start of the examination. Dental and Dental Hygiene Students, OHAF Update 1. Approved OHAF funding * OHAF patient funding that has ALREADY been approved can proceed. * For procedure codes that are currently approved any minor changes such as 25 DO restoration changes to 25 MOD, or NPP3 becomes an NPP4 these changes can proceed without having to be reapproved. 2. Unapproved OHAF funding * Any treatment funding requests that have not already been approved WILL NOT be approved. * If the treatment you are asking to be funded is required to meet a course requirement, please send me an email explaining your situation. I will review your request with the course coordinator and the PCCs to determine what options are available. 3. Lab codes need to be swiped to Complete on the date of delivery. * If you accidentally have the Lab code swiped Complete ahead of the delivery, submit a Correction Card ASAP. The code will be set back to In process and available for you to swipe as Complete at the delivery appointment. 4. Reception/PCCs do not make any edits to patient charts. This must be done by the provider ahead of the delivery appointment. 5. D4 Hygiene Rotation – Recall Exam Codes are not being swiped during the D4 Recall rotation. Ensure that you are completing all forms including the recall or CTP codes. * You can leave the treatment plan swiped by the instructor and not signed by the patient. * When the patient is assigned to a dental student, that new dental student must review and confirm they agree with the treatment plan and at then either have the patient accept and sign the original treatment plan or create a new treatment plan if it needs to be modified. 1. Swipes before checking out at reception – all dental and dental hygiene students must enter a treatment code and treatment notes for each clinical session. You can in-process treatment codes multiple times. Please let your instructors know that they must swipe the procedure code BEFORE you dismiss your patient. 2. Send an email to request co-assignment/transfer between years to your course coordinator with PCC and classmate cc’d to email. Include details of the transfer. For D3 and D4 students, include Dr. Reeve in your email request. 3. Grade Card/Evaluation Forms – Confirm you are being graded for the proper Discipline and on the correct Grade Form to ensure accurate grades. If you notice an error, inform your grading instructor and ask them to redo on correct form. Submit a correction card asap. Have a great week! Trenna M.
