Needles for local anaesthesia

There seems to be a bit of a misunderstanding. When you are doing a mandibular block you should always be using long needles. Dispensary has 25 Longs available. You will not get local if the needle does not contact bone. If a short needle breaks it can be a multi hour surgery under general anaesthetic to retrieve it. The patient is unlikely to notice a difference between a 25 and 27 gauge needle and the 25 is less likely to deflect. We are never ever ever getting back together or using short needles for mandibular blocks. Below are some quick reminders: * 2025 Mini Winter Clearance Date: * Thursday December 11th * Sign-Up Sheets can be located on TEAMS & will be locked on December 5 at 12:00 PM * When you add your name to the sign-up sheets, please use your full name (first & last name) * Review all your patients & complete all outstanding items before clearance * Radiology reports, Oral Pathology reports, correction cards & fee waivers must be reviewed and swiped prior to your appointment * All Pediatric radiology reports need to be completed and approved with a Pediatric instructor. * Any instructor swipes needed should be completed before your appointments * Correction Cards must be submitted by December 1, 2025 * All Dispensary loaned items must be returned to Dispensary by December 4th before 12:00 pm. They require the preparation of another examination, scheduling of a testing location, and the assignment of faculty to proctor the exam. The different date has the potential to afford an unfair advantage to a student. The Course Coordinator may, at his/her discretion, choose to alter the format of a re-administered examination to accommodate the above concerns. A re-administered examination may include one or a combination of short answer, essay, or multiple-choice questions, and can be in either oral or written format. Students are expected to write examinations on the scheduled dates. Students with unexcused examination absences will be given a mark of zero ('0') for the exam. To obtain a deferral for an examination, students must give notice of the absence to the Instructor, Course Coordinator, and the Dean's Office (absent(a)umanitoba.ca<mailto:absent@umanitoba.ca>) of the absence prior to the start of the examination.
