by Asmaa Haimeur 01 Sep '26

01 Sep '26

Hello D3 & D4 students, This is a reminder that you may not schedule Endo on Thursday afternoons unless you have signed up for a Endo spot in the Google Drive document: Here is the link for the doc: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1HLoQJZHtVUXunZK7kE6n6PHXGzSlWMTsInfUE71… There are only 4 spots with the endodontist and 2 spots with GP. Please do not add extra lines under the endodontist list to fit your name in. Bookings can only be made up to 2 weeks in advance. Please do not place your name on the list every week beyond that limit as it will be removed. The cap on Endo chairs is in place to ensure adequate supervision and availability of equipment. Any bookings made in axiUM that do not match the Endo sign-up sheet will be cancelled. Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions or comments. Thank you for your cooperation. REVISED FINAL D4 Fall Exam Schedule
by Susan Petras 29 Oct '25

29 Oct '25

Hello D4, we had some students express concern regarding exams scheduled outside of the exam period and the conflicts that they resulted in with internal or external rotations (including one on a Northern rotation). As a result, the DDSS 4150 exam scheduled for November 28th from 8:00 to 8:50 am and the DENT 4240 Exam Scheduled for December 2, 2-4 pm, needed to be re-scheduled due to time conflicts with rotations. Note that both patient care needs as well as your clinical experience time was a factor in the decision to make these changes. Please see attached the REVISED D4 Fall Exam Schedule. Adjustments have been made to UM Learn. Susan Susan Petras Student Affairs Coordinator Dr. Gerald Niznick College of Dentistry University of Manitoba Office: P131c, Pathology Bldg. Needles for local anaesthesia
by James Ksionzyk 24 Oct '25

24 Oct '25

There seems to be a bit of a misunderstanding. When you are doing a mandibular block you should always be using long needles. Dispensary has 25 Longs available. You will not get local if the needle does not contact bone. If a short needle breaks it can be a multi hour surgery under general anaesthetic to retrieve it. The patient is unlikely to notice a difference between a 25 and 27 gauge needle and the 25 is less likely to deflect. We are never ever ever getting back together or using short needles for mandibular blocks. FINAL - Fall Term 2025 Examination Schedule
by Susan Petras 21 Oct '25

21 Oct '25

Hello Dentistry Students. Please note that the exam schedule is now FINAL. Exams have been scheduled/confirmed in UM Learn. Please be reminded of the policies listed below and seek supports as needed as we enter the stress of end of term. Good luck on all your exams and I hope you have a very restful winter holiday! Susan Susan Petras Student Affairs Coordinator Dr. Gerald Niznick College of Dentistry University of Manitoba D113 - 780 Bannatyne Ave. Winnipeg, MB R3E 0W2 [cid:image001.jpg@01DC3E84.6E813940] (204) 789-3484 Susan.Petras(a)umanitoba.ca<mailto:Susan.Petras@umanitoba.ca> Please be reminded of the following College policies (as listed on your course outlines): Deferred/Make-up Exams: Examinations that, due to student absence, must be re-administered at times other than the scheduled period, are highly disruptive to the course sequence. They require the preparation of another examination, scheduling of a testing location, and the assignment of faculty to proctor the exam. The different date has the potential to afford an unfair advantage to a student. The Course Coordinator may, at his/her discretion, choose to alter the format of a re-administered examination to accommodate the above concerns. A re-administered examination may include one or a combination of short answer, essay, or multiple-choice questions, and can be in either oral or written format. Students are expected to write examinations on the scheduled dates. Students with unexcused examination absences will be given a mark of zero ('0') for the exam. To obtain a deferral for an examination, students must give notice of the absence to the Instructor, Course Coordinator, and the Dean's Office (absent(a)umanitoba.ca<mailto:absent@umanitoba.ca>) of the absence prior to the start of the examination. This can be a very stressful time of year. If you need some help in coping with the stress, please contact: STUDENT SERVICES AT BANNATYNE CAMPUS https://umanitoba.ca/student-supports/student-services-bannatyne-campus
