How to Apply Step 1: Express Your Interest (ASAP) If you are interested in participating in the Winter 2027 Northern Practicum, please email Tara.Baxter@umanitoba.ca and Kelly.Lambkin@fsdnet.ca as soon as possible to begin the conversation. Early expressions of interest help us answer your questions, discuss placement opportunities, and provide additional information about the experience. If you need a hard copy, please come in-person to the Practicum Office. 📅 Application Deadline: October 30, 2026 (sooner is preferred) ✅ Applications are reviewed on an ongoing basis. Interested Teacher Candidates are encouraged to connect with us and submit their application as early as possible. While applications remain open until October 30, earlier applications provide more time for planning, orientation, housing, travel arrangements, and placement matching. 📅 Practicum Timeline ✅ Complete your Fall 2026 Practicum in your current placement school. ✅ Selected participants will then transition to a Northern Practicum placement for Winter Term 2027. ✅ The Winter Practicum includes an extended practicum block through the end of April 2027. ✅ Approximately 2 of the Practicum Mondays before the practicum block will be orientation days.
Planned Community Day Trip Visit One planned orientation activity will include:
* A day trip and community visit facilitated by Frontier School Division * Transportation provided * Scheduled on a Practicum Monday during the Winter term * An opportunity to learn about local context and Frontier School Division before beginning your placement.
Financial Assistance Available Financial supports are available through:
* Frontier School Division * Faculty of Education funding opportunities
Cohort Experience This initiative is designed to create a strong community among participating Teacher Candidates.
* Learn together * Build professional networks together * Support one another throughout the practicum experience The goal is to foster meaningful connections with peers, schools, communities, and northern educators.
