To All Faculty with the Ability to Initiate or Approve Transactions in the Finance or HR Systems,
March is Fraud Prevention Month, an annual campaign<https://competition-bureau.canada.ca/en/fraud-and-scams/fraud-prevention-mo…> that reinforces the importance for all community members to recognize, reject and report fraudulent activity.
We encourage all faculty members with the ability to initiate or approve transactions in the Finance or HR Systems to:
· Review Financial Stewardship & Ethical Conduct - What You Need to Know (see attached document);
· Read the university's Fraud and Financial Irregularity Reporting Policy<https://umanitoba.ca/governance/sites/governance/files/2022-07/fraud-and-fi…>; and,
· Consider taking the accompanying course in UM Learn.
UM's Fraud and Financial Irregularity Reporting Policy applies to all faculty, staff, students, Board of Governors members, consultants, vendors, donors, and funders, and is meant to communicate our value in accountability and integrity and our commitment to the highest standards of honesty, ethical conduct, and fiduciary responsibility. The University is funded primarily through public funds, tuition revenue from students, and donations from benefactors, and therefore, we have an obligation to ensure appropriate stewardship over these funds. This includes a shared responsibility to report good faith concerns or suspicions of fraud and irregularities.
Please consider taking the accompanying course called Financial Stewardship & Ethical Conduct. The course, which takes approximately 45 minutes to complete, reviews the policy and associated procedures, and builds knowledge around recognizing fraud and financial irregularities. The course details can be found below.

Financial Stewardship & Ethical Conduct Course Details
1. Go to UM Learn<http://www.umlearn.ca/> and log in using your UM email address and password.
2. Select the waffle menu (a square made up of nine dots located near the top of the screen) and find the course.
3. Select the course from the waffle dropdown menu by clicking on it. Most users have been automatically registered in the course, which means the course will appear in the dropdown menu.
