Your Chance to Join In
On March 28th, Israelis will be voting for their new leadership.
From Canada, all that we can normally do is watch.
This year, the Canadian Federation of Jewish Students along with
Hasbara Fellowships is bringing the Israeli elections to you.
We are giving Canadian students a chance to take part in mock Israeli elections.
IsraelVotes2006.ca http://www.israelvotes2006.ca/ is your gateway to learn about the parties, leaders, and issues and to vote for the party of your choice.
The website includes information on all of the parties and leaders, as well as news on the election. After learning about the parties and issues you get the chance to vote by choosing your campus from the dropdown menu and filling out the online ballot. It's that easy!
This is a great opportunity to engage in Israeli life and to show others the vibrant democracy in Israel.
At the end, we will see how each campus, and how Canadian students as a whole, voted.

Winnipeg International Jewish Film Festival
Screens World-Renowned Features and Documentaries
Ten unique and critically-acclaimed films from a number of countries will be presented to audiences at the 2006 Winnipeg International Jewish Film Festival from March 27 to April 5 at the Berney Theatre, Asper Jewish Community Campus. The festival is presented by The Asper Foundation Performances in association with the Rose and Max Rady Jewish Community Centre.

This endearing, feature length documentary tells the story of Hazzanut (Jewish cantorial music) in America by taking us on a musical voyage from Brooklyn to Jerusalem and treating us to special appearances by renowned cantors and aficionados of this beautiful art form.
Mixed Blessings: The Challenge of Raising Children in a Jewish-Christian Family Sunday, April 2, 7:30 pm - USA, 2004,
This poignant documentary illustrates the emotional process four couples encounter as they try to come to terms with their own spiritual and religious beliefs and how those beliefs get passed down to their children.
Special Guest - filmmaker Jennifer Kaplan will be in attendance for a post-screening discussion.

Based on a true story of resistance in World War II, this moving and inspirational film portrays the courageous protest of Aryan women married to Jews against the imprisonment of their husbands in a cell on Rosenstrasse in 1943 Berlin.
Campfire - Tuesday, April 4, 7:30 pm - Israel, 2004
This touching and delightful film portrays one Israeli woman's struggle set against the backdrop of the religious Zionist settler movement in the early 1980s.
Live and Become - Wednesday, April 5, 7:30 pm - France/Belgium/Israel/Italy, 2005
Set against the backdrop of the airlift of thousands of Ethiopian Jews, this moving, epic feature brilliantly portrays the story on an Ethiopian boy who makes his way to Israel from a Sudanese refugee camp.

Little Traveller Dolls

JSA is partnering with a local organization Simunye initiative.

The dolls cost $5.00 and are all original and unique (make great Valentines Day presents) and are MADE by somebody affected by AIDS in South Africa.
The dolls are made in South Africa; some of the money goes to the person making the dolls who is a crafter, thereby supporting a family affected by AIDS. The rest of the money goes to support the home-based care programming of the Hillcrest AIDS centre trust.
So 100% of the money goes back to South Africa.
