HI All,
I just wanted to give everyone a heads up that our usual epidural trays are in an unexpected backorder of uncertain duration. As a result, we will be back to using our alternate Arrow tray which has its pluses and minuses depending on your individual preferences. You must be aware of the following differences in the substitute product:
1. The epidural tray comes with an epidural catheter so you don't have to open a separate one. The catheter comes loaded into a plastic sheath that is basically the same as the sheath the contains the Arrow guide wires in the central line kits.
1. The glass syringe contained in the sub tray is a 5-cc syringe with a different resistance than the usual 10 cc LOR syringe in the preferred tray. You are of course free to use it if you wish or the 10-cc plastic LOR syringe also contained therein. I have instructed the aides to stock 10-cc glass LOR syringes in the blue bin on top of the epidural carts. You will have access to the exact syringe to which you are accustomed to using, you will simply have to open it onto the tray.
1. The sub tray does not have 5 or 10 cc luer lock syringes for local anaesthetic: instead, it contains a 20 cc and a 3-cc slip tip syringe. You will have to open a syringe for your local anesthetic if you are not happy with the aforementioned choices.
1. The sub product does not contain a large op-site dressing to cover the adhesive lock. These are also contained in the epidural cart, so you will need to open one as part of your preparation before inserting an epidural.
In summary, in order to clone the supplies that you are used to having for epidural insertion, you will need to open a 10-cc syringe, an op-site and a 10-cc glass LOR syringe prior to inserting an epidural. Hopefully our trays will be back in stock soon. I have attached a photo for your reference.
