Meet The Speaker - Brian Buchanan Dr. Brian Buchanan graduated from the University of Alberta with a BSc (hon) in Human Physiology in 2006 and MD in 2010. He went on to complete training in Internal Medicine (Dalhousie University, 2014) and Critical Care Medicine (McMaster University, 2016). Additionally, Brian has completed concurrent fellowship training in critical care ultrasound (Western University, 2016) and a Master’s in Medical Education (Dundee University, 2021) with a focus on critical care ultrasound education. He practices as a General Systems- and Neuro-Intensivist at the University of Alberta Hospital in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada and as a flight physician with Shock Trauma Air Rescue Society (STARS). He is appointed as an Associate Professor in the Department of Critical Care Medicine (UofA). Brian is the Director of the Critical Care Ultrasound (CCUS) program, directs a critical care ultrasound fellowship, and leads national and international CCUS training through AlbertaSono.ca. His clinical and research interests include medical education, echocardiography, machine learning, critical care ultrasound, and procedural training. The event will take place at the William Street Main Entrance of HSC, in Room SR178 (next to the Gift Shop), from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM. The event is open to everyone, walk-ins are welcome, and there is also an option for prior registration using the QR code provided. Notice of Delay: Entrada Absence Request Responses Jan 29 - Feb 2

Hi Med 1's and 2's, Please be advised that there will be delays in responses to absence requests submitted in Entrada between Thursday, January 29 - Monday, February 2. Requests submitted during this period will be reviewed starting February 3. If you are planning flex days during the above 3-day period, your absence request should have already been submitted, right? (the attendance policy requires 3 weeks' notice for anticipated absences). If you have not yet submitted a request and know you will need time away, please submit this as soon as possible and no later than noon on Tuesday, January 27 to allow time for review. For unanticipated/short notice absences (these still happen!), expect that a response will likely come after the session has passed. The important part is that you submit your request in advance of the session you will miss as we can see the timestamp. There is no need to follow up with our office regarding your request -- this will be reviewed starting Feb 3, in the order received in Entrada. Thank you! This workshop series offers an opportunity to learn skills for managing stress and maintaining self-care utilizing cognitive, behavioral, and mindfulness strategies. The goal of the workshop is to build resilience and improve learners' capacity to manage stress in a healthy, adaptive way. This series will be facilitated by psychiatrist, Dr. Tanya Sala (she/her), and Justine Fredette (she/her). · Dates: Tuesday, February 24, 20226 - Tuesday, March 31, 2026 (six weeks/sessions) · Time: 4:00 - 5:30 pm (90 minutes) · Location: In-person @ Bannatyne Campus The group is made up of approximately 12 learners from different program areas.
