As part of the Inaugural Ceremony for the Class of 2030 on Wednesday, August 19, we have moved our venue to the Centennial Concert Hall (CCH). Here guests will be able to reserve seats by completing a ticketing "purchase". Please note that there is no cost to tickets, however there is a limit of 6 tickets per "purchase" or transaction. The Ceremony begins promptly at 10:00 am August 19th, 2026, but some time is needed to coordinate the procession and escort everyone to the stage prior. We ask that students arrive at 8:00 am. Congratulations on your offer of admission and welcome to the Max Rady College of Medicine! While this is a very exciting time for you, we know it may be stressful to consider the financial cost of a medical education. Aside from tuition costs, there will be the added cost of electives and residency interviews along with the cost of housing, groceries, and transportation expenses to name a few. We are here to help. Our goal is to provide you with the knowledge and tools to manage your personal finances during your 4 years at the Max Rady College of Medicine. The College of Medicine is offering a 1-hour financial information session for you and your family. We will review the cost of medical education and discuss bursaries, student loans, bank lines of credit, and disability insurance. The information session will be held on Thursday, August 13, 2026, from 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm. This session will be conducted virtually through Zoom. Sign-in information will be sent to you by email once your registration is confirmed. This session is not mandatory, but we strongly encourage you and your family to attend. There will be ample time for questions at the end of the session. Good afternoon Class of 2030! I just wanted to introduce myself before you begin to receive more emails from me as we get closer to the start of the academic year. My name is Maggie and I'm the Pre-Clerkship Program Lead in UGME -- I oversee the first two years of your UGME program. You will get to know the rest of the UGME/Pre-Clerkship admin team really well over the next couple of years, but during Pre-Clerkship if you're ever not sure who to contact for help, I'm your go-to person. So, save my information now in your contact lists! While all staff have personal email addresses, the preclerkship(a)umanitoba.ca<mailto:preclerkship@umanitoba.ca> should be the one you use to reach me. We will provide contact information shortly for the other staff in our office you will communicate with over the next two years. This is a super exciting time for you! Around this time of the year, there are usually a few things students start to look for. Take what you need from this: 1. Accessing Entrada Entrada is our curriculum management system, where you will access your personalized calendars, course/learning event objectives and resources, attendance records, and other materials. You will use this system for all 4 years of your program. * Your Entrada access goes live tomorrow, Friday, July 31 at noon. * After that time, Entrada can be accessed via the following page: https://entrada.radyfhs.umanitoba.ca (bookmark this!). * Your username is your myumanitoba.ca email address; your UofM email password should synchronize to also be your Entrada password. 1. Schedules * On Friday (same time as your access goes live), your individual Entrada schedules for Fall Term will be populated in your Dashboard calendar<https://entrada.radyfhs.umanitoba.ca/dashboard>. Some important schedule notes: i. Good habits. Your dashboard is the ONLY way to access your full, personalized schedule. Yours can differ from the schedule of your classmates for some courses. Other calendar displays throughout Entrada may be incomplete for you, so for now, please ensure you are planning class attendance based on that dashboard landing page. You should be checking this page regularly (daily) before classes and when planning ahead for extra-curricular activities. ii. It's a work in progress. Your schedule is mostly just a framework right now so you'll be able to see how we have structured your time for the upcoming term. We are still populating information and materials as these are finalized. We appreciate your patience! iii. Changes can happen. Significant changes to published courses are not anticipated at this point, but minor changes can (and will) still occur. Again, please ensure you are checking your Entrada schedule regularly for updates. iv. If it looks wrong, it might be. Textbook List * I have attached a textbook list for Pre-Clerkship. Many textbooks are available online for free through the UM library and are noted as such in the listing. 1. Our goal is to foster learning and working environments rooted in respect, accountability and compassion. In this issue, we highlight key activities, upcoming opportunities and resources available to support you as learners and emerging professionals. [Illustration of a stack of papers.] What we’ve been working on Professional Unsuitability By-Law approved – College of Medicine The University of Manitoba Senate approved the Max Rady College of Medicine Professional Unsuitability By-Law<https://umanitoba.ca/health-sciences/rady-faculty-health-sciences-policies#…> on June 24, 2026. The new by-law, which comes into effect on August 1, 2026, establishes a clear and transparent framework for addressing concerns related to a learner's professional suitability for practice while emphasizing procedural fairness, remediation where appropriate and accountability. It also supports restorative approaches for lower-level concerns, recognizing that many professionalism issues are best addressed through education, reflection and learning. This milestone reflects the collaborative efforts of many individuals across the College and the University who contributed to developing a framework that supports learners, upholds professional standards and helps foster respectful and safe learning environments. ConfidenceLine launched July 1, 2026 Creating environments where people feel safe to raise concerns remains one of our highest priorities. That's why we're excited to introduce ConfidenceLine<https://umanitobaspeakup.confidenceline.com/>. We know that raising a concern can feel difficult. Many people worry about being identified, not knowing what will happen next or whether their concern is significant enough to report. ConfidenceLine is a secure, third-party platform that offers an additional way to safely share concerns about learning and working environments. It provides the option to remain anonymous while enabling two-way communication with the Office of Professionalism allowing for guidance, dialogue and appropriate follow up while protecting privacy. ConfidenceLine can be used to raise concerns related to: * Unprofessional behaviour * Disrespectful interactions * Discrimination or racism * Harassment or sexual violence * Violence * Situations where guidance or support is needed We hope ConfidenceLine makes it easier for members of our community to ask questions, seek guidance and raise concerns early, helping us address issues before they grow. College Speak Up leads & Specialized Support retreat – May 28, 2026 On May 28, 2026 the Office of Professionalism hosted a half-day retreat for college Speak Up leads and Specialized Support representatives. This dedicated time created space for participants to step back from day-to-day responsibilities and focus on reflection, connection and shared learning. Speak Up leads play a critical role in supporting learners, responding to concerns and strengthening learning environments across the Colleges. One of the highlights of the retreat was the opportunity for Speak Up Leads from across the Colleges to learn from one another. These conversations help us build consistency, strengthen relationships and ensure people responding to concerns feel supported in this important work. All information has been fully de-identified to protect the privacy of learners, faculty and staff. Details have been summarized and anonymized and examples are shared solely for educational and illustrative purposes, to demonstrate the range of concerns received and the types of responses undertaken by the Office of Professionalism. Speak Up report A concern was raised regarding comments made in the workplace that were perceived as disrespectful toward immigrants and created discomfort for staff members. The concern was shared with nursing leadership for awareness and appropriate follow up, highlighting the importance of maintaining a respectful and inclusive workplace. Ad hoc Learners met with the Office of Professionalism to discuss ongoing concerns involving an individual that they felt was affecting their well-being. Guidance, support and information about available resources were provided and their concerns were documented. Mistreatment report A learner described an overall positive educational experience with supportive attending physicians while also raising concerns about team dynamics on an inpatient unit. Concerns related to interactions with members of the health-care team and their impact on the learning environment were documented. In accordance with the reporter’s wishes, the concern was not forwarded to the program. The information was documented and retained for data collection and trend-monitoring purposes. When people hear "Speak Up," they often think it means filing a formal report. In reality, speaking up can take many forms. It might mean: * Asking a respectful question when something doesn't feel right. * Checking in with someone who may have been affected. * Seeking advice before deciding what to do. * Having a difficult conversation. * Using the Speak Up process or ConfidenceLine when additional support is needed. You don't have to navigate challenging situations alone. Whether you're unsure how to respond, need guidance, or want to explore your options, the Office of Professionalism is here to help. Welcome Class of 2030 - IMPORTANT PLEASE READ

Welcome Class of 2030! Here are some things for you to do in preparation for the start of the school year: 1. Read the 3 attached documents. 2. Check your email for Examsoft installation and log-in instructions. Be sure to check your junk/spam folders if you have not received this message. * When you have completed installation, you can change your password if you'd like. 3. On Monday, August 24th, 2026, a practice exam will be released for you to use. The questions will test your knowledge of our exam software and UGME policies. * This exam is not worth marks, but it is MANDATORY. * The password is Welcome2030 * You will have until 4:00 pm on Friday, August 28th, 2026, to complete the practice exam. [How to Set Yourself Up for Success in Exams: 1. Give yourself LOTS of time to arrive and get settled. Give yourself enough time to go to your locker and drop off your items first. 2. FOR THE FIRST EXAM, ARRIVE AT LEAST 30 MINUTES BEFORE THE START TIME AS SIGN IN ALWAYS TAKES A WHILE. 3. Plan to eat and enjoy your coffee BEFORE entering the exam room. 4. Reach out to Student Accessibility Services to discuss possible accommodations well in advance of exams. 5. Always download your exams as early as possible. 6. Charge your computer and be sure to bring your charge cord as well. 7. Always bring your photo ID with you to the exam - it's mandatory for sign-in. 8. Review and become acquainted with the Deferral Policy BEFORE the school year begins. That way you will be ready in case of illness, injury, or emergencies.] Student should carefully read exam policies, especially regarding what items are permitted in the exam area. Below are some highlights of these policies. SAS = Student Accessibility Services | SAS Website: https://umanitoba.ca/student-supports/accessibility Regarding: Main Takeaways: Personal Belongings * No bags are allowed in the exam room. This includes but is not limited to backpacks, computer sleeves, and purses. The only exception to the bag rule is clear plastic bags with items approved by SAS for accommodated students. * UGME strongly recommends that you keep these items in your locker during exam times. The space outside of the examination theatres is not monitored. Leave personal items here at your own risk. * For students writing in any other space other than Theatres A, B or C: no bags are permitted to be left outside of the rooms at any time. * Students not writing in Theatres A, B or C who arrive with non-permitted items will not be permitted entry to the examination room until they have stored their items in an alternative location. No additional time will be granted under these circumstances. Medical Accommodations * All medical accommodations (including but not limited to, medications, devices, food, or beverage other than water) MUST be approved by SAS. * As this is an accommodation, you will write with other accommodated students. * All small items must be brought in a clear plastic bag. * Invigilators may ask to verify the items you brought. Non-Medical Items * Any extra items you wish to take into the examination room MUST be approved by SAS and documented in writing. * Extra items must be contained in a clear plastic bag * Invigilators may ask to verify the items you brought. Cell Phones and Other Tech * Under no circumstances are cell phones allowed in the examination area. * You will be reminded upon sign in that cell phones are not permitted in the exam area - this includes before the exam starts. * If you are found with your cell phone in the examination area, you may receive a zero on your exam. * UGME strongly recommends that you store your cell phone in your lockers during exams to keep your property safe and to keep the examination surrounding area noise-free. Invigilators will NOT hold your phone for you. * Only basic calculators are permitted (no scientific or graphing calculators.) * No smartwatches are permitted in the examination area. * No electronic ear buds or headphones of any kind are permitted in the examination area. (You may bring foam or wax earplugs, non-electronic noise-cancelling ear plugs like "Loop", or over-the-ear hearing protectors. Invigilators may ask to verify your items. Bluetooth-capable devices of any kind are not permitted, even if they are disconnected from your device. Food and Drink * Absolutely no food or drinks other than water are permitted in the examination area. * Water MUST be in a sealed, clear bottle. Labels should be removed from store-bought bottles. * If you must eat during an exam, you may not consume it within the exam area. An invigilator will escort you to retrieve your food and stay with you outside of the examination room until you are done. * No additional time will be granted for this. * Note: if you have a chronic condition or other reasons that require you to have nutrition breaks, speak to SAS to explore your options. Oversized sweaters and Outdoor Clothing * You may wear large sweaters and outdoor clothing within the examination area, but you may be asked by an invigilator to show that you do not have anything in your pockets before entering. * Hats are not included in this- no hats of any kind are permitted. Head garments * No hats of any kind outside of religious head coverings are permitted. Please keep hoods down. * If you wear a religious head covering that obscures your ears, an invigilator may ask to verify that there are no non-permitted devices by asking you to lift the garment up briefly. * This can be done in private, and with an invigilator of your choosing. * If you are in an exam with only one invigilator and prefer to have someone of the opposite sex than they are to help with checks, please let the invigilator know. An office employee will come to help. Pens/Pencils/Paper * Your own writing tools are allowed * Paper and notebooks of any kind are not permitted. * You will be provided with scrap paper for all exams. If you need more, just ask. * All scrap paper MUST be returned at the end of the exam. Late Arrivals * There is a 30-minute late period for emergencies only. Students arriving within this period will be admitted to the examination area but will not be permitted any extra time. * Be mindful of your noise level when entering late. * This is not meant for last-minute studying, eating or other breaks. * If you are present, you are expected to begin the exam on-time. * Absolutely no students will be permitted when the 30-minute window has passed. [Need to Take a Break During an Exam? * Students are not allowed to leave the examination area until the 30-minute late arrival period is done. * After that, 1 student at a time may be escorted out at a time for breaks. * Using this time to go to your backpack or locker to read course material is not allowed and would be considered academic dishonesty. * An invigilator will escort you to and from your examination area. * No extra time is given for breaks. * To minimize noise and distraction, students are asked not to leave the area within the last 10 minutes of the exam, even if they have completed the exam.] A Note on Deferrals: * If you wish to defer an exam, please consult the Deferral Policy, and follow the outlined procedures. * Exam deferral requests are meant for illness, injuries, and other emergencies. Exam deferrals should not be taken lightly. Deferring an exam often means taking a different version of the exam later, which prolongs academic stress and can disrupt future term planning. * If you do need to defer an exam at the last minute, you must notify us immediately. * Students who are absent without notice will be referred to Student Affairs for a wellness check. * All policies may be found on the UGME website or via Entrada here: https://entrada.radyfhs.umanitoba.ca/community/ugme:policies.
