Optional December Half-Jury

This message is being sent on behalf of Professor Allen Harrington, Recital/Jury Coordinator (Classical), Desautels Faculty of Music Dear Bachelor of Music Undergraduate students and MPS teachers, For Undergraduate students registered in MPS in the Bachelor of Music (classical area), you have the option of performing a half-jury in December. Here's what you need to know: 1. The half-jury is optional. If choosing this option, the student must perform 2 half-juries (1 in December and 1 in April) that are each half the length of the normal full jury. 2. The half-juries will take place in the December 12 to 15 range of dates. 3. This option is not available for those students who intend to audition for the Performance Concentration. Those students must perform a full jury in April. 4. Consult with your MPS teacher if you are interested and email our jury coordinator Allen Harrington allen.harrington(a)umanitoba.ca<mailto:allen.harrington@umanitoba.ca> by end of day Friday November 24 if you wish to choose the half-jury option. 5. If you wish to perform a full jury in April, no action is necessary at this time 6. The winner(s) will have the opportunity to perform a concerto or comparable larger work with the University of Manitoba Symphony Orchestra or the University of Manitoba Wind Ensemble during the following academic year (2024-2025). FW: Request to work with a Collaborative Pianist

This message is being sent on behalf of Judith Kehler Siebert, Professor, Desautels Faculty of Music Dear Colleagues, We are continuing the Collaborative Piano assignment program this year, in which B. Mus Performance Majors, Post Bacc, Pre-Masters, and Masters students in the Classical Stream can request 8 hours/term with a collaborative piano student, to rehearse and perform. Our expectation is that these hours will be spread evenly throughout the term. We are eager for our collaborative students to explore varied repertoire with the instrumentalists and singers from the Desautels Faculty of Music. Through these assignments, pianists participate in rehearsals, lessons, and/or master classes. If the soloist requires additional hours or the pianist's participation in a performance, it is their responsibility to make financial arrangements with the collaborative pianist. To encourage musical growth throughout the year, we recommend that the collaborative pianists attend the soloists' lessons at least once a month. We also recommend that soloists come to the collaborative pianists' lessons and/or Studio Classes periodically. We are both available to team-coach with you if schedules permit. We have created a Request Form for students/instructors to fill (attached to this e-mail). The deadline is Tuesday, October 3 at 4:30 pm. All assignments will be made by Judy and Laura. Call for recommendations

This email is being sent on behalf of Samuel Plato, Music Librarian Hello MPS instructors! I am reaching out to ask each of you to recommend a handful of pieces for purchase (3 - 5) that you believe the music library should have available for your students. These could be pieces that are part of the central canon of literature for your instrument, or new pieces of value that you would like your students to have access to. You can make your recommendations by emailing a list to me at Samuel.plato(a)umanitoba.ca<mailto:Samuel.plato@umanitoba.ca> or by filling out the Recommend a Purchase<https://apps-lib-umanitoba-ca.uml.idm.oclc.org/forms/uml/recommend/index.php> form. I know the beginning of the semester is busy for everyone, so please don't feel the need to check on whether the library already has a piece or not before recommending it. The aim of this request is to ensure that the music library continues to offer students a robust collection for their performance and study needs, and if we already have the pieces you suggest then we are in a good place and don't necessarily need to add more pieces just for the sake of adding them.
