RIME with Dr. Teresa Cavett It seems reasonable to say that most people have heard of podcasts, and many have listened to at least one. But have you ever heard of pubcasts? A pubcast is similar to a podcast but it focuses on discussing a research project directly with the researcher(s). You might want to think of it as a cross between a podcast interview and a journal club. It gives listeners the opportunity to hear not only the research results but also discover the experiences of the researcher as they undertook this journey.
With the days getting shorter, the air feeling crisper, and all manner of things becoming pumpkin-spiced once again, it’s also an opportune time to explore and learn. Well, it’s always an opportune time to explore and learn, but there’s something about the fall that heightens that feeling, don’t you think? As always, ISME is looking forward to being a part of your learning adventures. Our podcasts are back and we’re starting out this month with an exploration of RIME. This framework for fostering student progress in a clinical setting…better yet, let’s listen as Dr. Teresa Cavett shares her wisdom and experience in this area. Creating and Maintaining a Health Professions Podcast with Rebecca Muller and Rachael Thompson It seems reasonable to say that most people have heard of podcasts, and many have listened to at least one. Do you listen to podcasts? Chances are, you probably have a few go-to podcasters that you tune in to on a regular basis. Podcasting has become a very popular way of exchanging information and making connections. But have you ever wondered what goes into creating and maintaining a health professions podcast? We sat down with Rebecca Muller and Rachael Thompson, who founded the Meet the PAs podcast, to learn what inspired them to undertake this labour of love and how they manage to maintain it while leading busy professional careers and also living in two different cities. Curious to learn more? Grab a coffee, sit back, and have a listen to a podcast about podcasting. Very meta, as the kids would say...

Lived Experience with Dr. Karen Wang “Walk a mile in their shoes” is proverb you most likely have heard before. But how often do we hear of people putting it into practice? The Lived Experience study is one example of how this idea could be applied in a medical education setting. In this study, Dr. Karen Wang paired a cohort of psychiatry residents one on one with community members living with mental illness, having them meet on a regular basis in a non-clinical setting over an extended period of time. Dr. Wang discusses the study in our November pubcast. We invite you to take 20 minutes and share in this experience.

Interview with Dr. Aviva Goldberg As we approach the year’s end, many individuals take time to reflect on what they’ve achieved and learned over the past 365 days. We thought this was a perfect opportunity to do something similar in podcast form. We sat down with Dr. Aviva Goldberg to reflect on her time as Associate Dean, Student Affairs as she retires from that position and moves on to new adventures. We invite you to listen to the podcast as well as joining us in wishing Dr. Goldberg much success and happiness in her new endeavours. We look forward to the next year, and being part of more interesting and informative conversations. We hope you continue to join us on that journey. Wishing you all a happy, healthy, and prosperous 2026! Click here to listen to Dr. Aviva Goldberg's interviewhttps://soundcloud.com/user-385073136/interview-with-dr-aviva-goldberg

Capturing the Patient Voice in the development of Trauma Informed Care Training As medical educators, we strive to make the training we provide as authentic as possible. This isn’t always an easy thing to do. Approaching a sensitive topic such as trauma-informed care can add multiple layers of complexity. The Department of Family Medicine undertook such a journey when they began creating a faculty development workshop on this topic for their residency program. In this month’s podcast, we spoke with Dr. Seint Kokokyi about the journey and how they endeavoured to capture the patient voice by working with a committee comprised of community members from diverse backgrounds.
