Hello Nursing Students, I trust everyone is doing well and that the semester has been going smoothly. As we move through the academic year, I would like to wish everyone continued success in their studies and clinical placements. My name is Hamidat Ahmed-Ishimel, and I am honoured to serve as your Senior Stick for the 2026–2027 academic year. I am excited to work with and advocate for nursing students throughout the year. I will be working alongside Tolani Olanrewaju (Vice Stick), Ronald Nkemakosi (Treasurer), Kendra Olthof (Secretary), Toyosi Ogunleye (UMSU Representative), and the rest of our General Council. This initiative is designed to provide additional academic support for students enrolled in NURS 2500 through weekly 1-hour tutoring sessions focused on improving understanding and performance in the course. Volunteer Tutor Opportunity We are currently seeking volunteer tutors who meet the following eligibility criteria: • Must be a 3rd- or 4th-year nursing student • Must have achieved a minimum grade of B+ in NURS 2500 • Must be interested in gaining teaching and leadership experience Volunteer tutors will receive formal recognition on their Co-Curricular Record (CCR) upon completing a minimum of 10 hours throughout the semester. Tutors are expected to commit to one hour per week, but the specific day, time, and location of the sessions can be coordinated directly between the tutor and tutee for flexibility. I hope everyone had a restful break and is ready for another exciting school semester. My name is Amarachi Miracle Ndukauba, and I’m the current Peer Mentorship Chair of the NSA. I am excited to invite you to be part of something meaningful, the Mentorship Program for the 2026–2027 academic year. We've received lots of positive feedback from past participants, and we're excited to get more students involved this term! What is the Mentorship Program All About? The NSA Mentorship Program was created to support nursing students not only in their academic journey but in personal and professional development as well. Our goal is to foster a positive, welcoming, and empowering environment for all nursing students through mentorship. Why Become a Mentee? Whether you're in your first term or later in the program, becoming a mentee is a valuable opportunity! You'll be paired with a nursing student further along in the program who can offer guidance, share their experiences, and help you navigate nursing school. You can get Encouragement, support, and motivation throughout the semester, which will Increase self-confidence and clarity on academic and career goals. CPR Renewal/ Certification- Action Needed

Dear Students (BN and NP) and Midwifery Learners, This is a reminder to recertify your CPR at the Health Care Provider Level (HCP) during the months of April or May, regardless of the expiry date noted on your CPR card. Proof of your recertification must be emailed to nursing(a)umanitoba.ca<mailto:nursing@umanitoba.ca> no later than June 1st, 2026. No exceptions. * Note - Students registered in clinical in Summer Term are encouraged to submit their CPR by May 1st (including Midwifery Learners) * If you are graduating after Winter Term (May 2026 Grads), you do not need to submit proof of CPR recertification. * The NSA often offers CPR courses in April and May. Please watch for more information from the NSA. Participating in these classes will help support the NSA as they receive a portion from our CPR Partner for each sign-up! Please include CPR and your full name and student number in the subject of your email. Submitting your documents on time means that you will be able to register during the initial registration period, provided you do not have other holds on your record. Students who do not submit the documents on time will be prevented from registering for courses until late August, which may result in you not obtaining space in some of your courses.
