[Calling all Indigenous midwifery students! We have heard your feedback, and we want to offer one form of support in the short-term-monthly peer sessions guided by an Indigenous midwife. Building on recommendations from the gathering of university and apprentice Indigenous Midwifery Students held in October 2023, NCIM will host monthly student sessions between Jan-Mar 2024. An Indigenous midwife mentor will guide these discussions with students to connect with each other and share problems and solutions. NCIM will do our best to implement any feedback or recommendations from students on future sessions and supports.]

Ashley Lickers is a Cayuga Nation Indigenous Midwife, Educator, Community leader, and
Midwifery Graduate Program Candidate. Ashley will guide a 90-minute peer discussion with
Indigenous midwifery students to connect with each other and share problems and solutions.
If you have an Indigenous student support person, they can advocate for you to have time off to attend.

ELIGIBILITY
Must be NCIM members (students) to participate. Students will be offered $100.00 honorariums for participating.

This work is part of an NCIM and Canadian Association of Midwives (CAM) joint national project, titled "Dismantling Anti-Indigenous Racism in Reproductive Health Care (HC-AIR)". This Health Canada funded project aims to integrate cultural safety training across the life-cycle of midwifery education and practice, from pre-service to in-service education, including resources and tools to advance commitments to AIR in acute care settings. The competencies will be communicated to regulators of midwifery care for uptake into competency requirements.
