Updated Territory Acknowledgement

Hello Riddell Faculty, It was just announced that the University of Manitoba has updated their Traditional Territories Acknowledgement. You can read more about it here: https://news.umanitoba.ca/um-updates-traditional-territories-acknowledgemen… If you are updating your email signature, slides, or anywhere that uses the acknowledgement, it should be changed to the following: "The University of Manitoba campuses and research spaces are located on original lands of Anishinaabeg, Ininiwak, Anisininewuk, Dakota Oyate, Dene and Inuit, and on the National Homeland of the Red River Métis. UM recognizes that the Treaties signed on these lands are a lifelong, enduring relationship, and we are dedicated to upholding their spirit and intent. We acknowledge the harms and mistakes of the past and the present. With this understanding, we commit to supporting Indigenous excellence through active Reconciliation, meaningful change, and the creation of an environment where everyone can thrive. Our collaboration with Indigenous communities is grounded in respect and reciprocity and this guides how we move forward as an institution." Let me know if you have any questions! Hello everyone, You are invited to attend presentations by the following candidates for the position of Canada Excellence Research Chair (CERC) in Arctic Climate Action and Sustainability, position #'s 36530/36531. During the presentation, the candidate will highlight their most significant research contributions and provide an overview of their proposed CERC program, followed by ample time for Q/A. Tuesday, 7 October 2025 Research Title: Advancing Arctic Community Resilience and Sustainability amid Climate Change Candidate: Andrey Petrov, University of Northern Iowa (Please find the candidate's biography attached.)
