* Here are updates on available funding opportunities.
University Research Grants Program (URGP)https://research.ad.umanitoba.ca/mrt/pubapp/umfo_view.php?id=4105 offers funding up to $15,000 to new faculty. New Faculty are defined as full-time academic faculty members who are within five years of the date of their first full-time appointment. New Faculty are eligible to receive up to three URGP awards in the five-year period. UM Application Deadline: November 17, 2025 by 4:30 pm CST
University Indigenous Research Programhttps://umanitoba.sharepoint.com/sites/um-intranet-research-services/SitePages/internal-funding-programs.aspx#university-indigenous-research-program-%28uirp%29 is offering funding in two streams:
* UIRP-Connection for relationship-building activities with First Nations, Métis and/or Inuit communities. It does not support research activities. Available funding is $20,000 for two years. * UIRP-Project for original, high quality research projects across all disciplines. Available funding is $ 35,000 for three years. An additional $5,000 may be requested for knowledge mobilization activities.

Funding up to $25,000 is available. UM Application Deadline: November 17, 2025 by 4:30 pm CST
University International Programs & Projects Seed Fund (UIPPSF)https://umanitoba.sharepoint.com/sites/um-intranet-research-services/SitePages/internal-funding-programs.aspx#university-international-programs-projects-seed-fund-%28uippsf%29 supports development of new international initiatives. UM/SSHRC Exchange Grants Programhttps://umanitoba.us21.list-manage.com/track/click?u=c0470f6f144abfc7021a580f5&id=c5f9b5abfd&e=da0545e3e5 supports researchers to participate in international conferences of major scholarly significance. Open to researchers in SSHRC-supported disciplines. Funding up to $750 (within Canada), $1000 (USA), and $1500 (International) UM Application Deadline: November 17, 2025 by 4:30 pm CST
UM/SSHRC Explore Grants Programhttps://umanitoba.us21.list-manage.com/track/click?u=c0470f6f144abfc7021a580f5&id=12fe57bb85&e=da0545e3e5 supports small-scale research projects in the social sciences and humanities. Open to researchers in SSHRC-supported activities. Funding up to $10,000. This funding will be available to award approximately 4 UM/SSHRC Explore Applications during this Fall 2025 Competition. UM Application Deadline: November 17, 2025 by 4:30 pm CST
Research Connectionshttps://researchmanitoba.ca/research-connections/ offers a maximum of $7,500, with an additional $2,500 available for events taking place in the Northern Manitoba region*. Research Manitoba funding must make up no more than 50% of the total event budget. Internal Application Deadline: October 27, 2025 Agency Application Deadline: November 17, 2025
CIFAR Global Scholars Programhttps://research.ad.umanitoba.ca/mrt/pubapp/umfo_view.php?id=4083 offers $100,000 to develop and lead high-risk, high-reward interdisciplinary research. Internal Application Deadline: October 16, 2025 Agency Application Deadline: November 05, 2025 by 12:00 pm EST
The France Canada Research Fund (FFCR)https://research.ad.umanitoba.ca/mrt/pubapp/umfo_view.php?id=4089 provides research training for researchers at the master’s and doctorate levels. Laureates are awarded start-up grants of $8,000 to $15,000 CAD to fund research and student mobility between the two countries. Internal Application Deadline: October 24, 2025 Agency Application Deadline: November 14, 2025
