The Centre on Aging will host our 43rd Annual Spring Research Symposium on May 7, 2026 on the Fort Garry Campus (2nd floor, UMSU University Centre).
To help make the Symposium a continued success, we are looking for student volunteers to help during the various sessions, and with assisting our Symposium delegates. The Symposium attracts over 200 people annually.
As a STAR member, we are contacting you to see if you would like to help. For those students who attend STAR meetings and volunteer at the Spring Symposium, you may be eligible to receive credit for your experience record (formerly the co-curricular record, CCR) from the University for the current academic year.
For those interested in making connections for research projects or even pursuing an aging related career, the Symposium is an excellent opportunity to make connections and meet with individuals working in the community. If you are also presenting a poster, we can work around your poster presentation times.

If you sign up as a volunteer,
* You are required to attend ONE volunteer orientation session (May 4th 1–2 pm OR May 5th 10-11 am). Students attending the orientation will get credit towards their experience record. * Must sign up for at least one shift at the registration desk or assist with traffic control. * Eligible students will receive credit for their volunteer time for their experience record. * We will be looking for Session Chairs. These roles are for graduate students only. Please let me know if you are interested in this role.
How to volunteer
1. Complete the Volunteer form for times and positions available by April 20. Please note shifts are subject to change. We will confirm with you if they need to be changed. 2. Shifts are first come first served. We will do our best to accommodate requests. 3. On April 22nd , you will receive an email with instructions on how to sign up for a volunteer orientation session. If you cannot attend a session, contact Nicole for additional instructions. 4. All volunteers must also register for the Spring Research Symposium.
