Reading to Write Program July and August 2025

Hello UM advisors, The Academic Learning Centre is offering two sessions of the Reading to Write Program in July and August 2025. This university-prep online course helps students improve their academic reading and writing skills, understand university assignment expectations, and learn to use UMLearn and other UM resources. Students learn strategies for reading complex academic texts, complete basic academic writing tasks and receive feedback on their writing from Academic Learning Centre writing tutors. Reading to Write is short, free, and online and it is best suited for incoming UM students or those who have completed fewer than 60 credits. Aurora Modernization Project Updates for June 2025

Hello everyone, We want to provide you with an important update regarding the Launch Date of the Major, Minor, Declaration Workflow being developed as part of the Aurora Modernization Project. We continue working hard to provide students with a smooth and seamless experience. Given the complexity of this customization in Self-Service 8, we need a bit more time to achieve this goal. As such, the launch date for this Workflow will be pushed out to later this fall. In the meantime, students will continue using existing functionality in Self-Service 8 (Aurora Classic) to declare a Major, Minor or Concentration online. More information to follow on upcoming consultation sessions and demo of the new Workflow. A reminder that the online Major, Minor, Concentration declarations will open for students on Monday, June 9th. Approved Changes to B.Ed. Admission Criteria for 2026-27 Intake Dear Colleagues, On October 30, 2024, Manitoba Education and Early Childhood Learning announced significant changes to teacher certification requirements in the province. In response to these changes, the University of Manitoba's Faculty of Education engaged in an extensive and thorough consultative process with all internal and external stakeholders. We are pleased to share that, at the May 14, 2025 meeting of Senate, the faculty's proposed updates to B.Ed. admissions were approved. These changes will take effect for the 2026-27 application cycle (with a deadline of February 1, 2026). Summary of Updated B.Ed. Admission Criteria Early & Middle Years Streams * A bachelor's degree from a recognized post-secondary institution (minimum 90 credit hours) * A minimum 2.50 Adjusted Grade Point Average (AGPA) * Applicants wishing to declare a specialization in Music Education or Physical Education (in Early Years), or a specialization in Music Education, Physical Education, Art, or Human Ecology (in Middle Years) must present 18 credit hours of specific coursework if their first degree is outside of these specialization areas. A minimum grade of 'C' is required in all specialization course work. Senior Years Stream * A bachelor's degree from a recognized post-secondary institution (minimum 90 credit hours) * A minimum 2.50 Adjusted GPA * 24-credit hours in a first teachable subject area (formerly "teachable major") * 15-credit hours in a second teachable subject area (formerly "teachable minor") * Applicants declaring a specialization in Music Education, Physical Education, Art, or Human Ecology without a matching degree will require additional coursework. * A minimum grade of 'C' is required in all coursework used towards a first and second teachable subject area and specialization, if applicable. Important information about the observance of Ramadan

Please forward this email to members of your team who provide advisement and support to students in your faculty/college/school. As you may be aware, the Ramadan season is upon us. It began on March 1, ends on March 29, and culminates in the 3-day celebration of Eid ul-Fitr, which begins on the evening of March 29th. The UM Spiritual Care & Multi-Faith Centre is offering the following information to assist faculty and educators when responding to students who are requesting deferred mid-term exams or quizzes, and extensions on their assignments (such as essays, projects) due to their religious observance: During Ramadan, students will be fasting during the day (no food or drink) from dawn to dusk. [1] For exams and quizzes scheduled in the evenings at times that overlap with the breaking of the fast at dusk (see footnote), please permit students to defer those exams/quizzes or, if they choose to write the exam/quiz, to be allowed to eat and drink accordingly. Students’ needs will vary from student to student. In addition, sleep is greatly impacted as religiously observant individuals will be engaging in nightly prayers (which could finish as late as 10:30pm-11pm). They then need to wake up to start the fast before dawn (see footnote below). In combination with daily fasting, the shortened nights often contribute to feelings of fatigue and difficulty concentrating, which may negatively impact students’ ability to write early morning exams, be attentive at or attend early morning classes (before 10am). Please give care and consideration to the needs of these students. Finally, Eid ul-Fitr is the most important holiday in the Muslim calendar, signifying the end of Ramadan. It should be considered in the same way as Christmas Day or Good Friday. Muslim students should not be expected to write exams on this date. Please note that there is some variation in the Muslim community about which date is Eid ul-Fitr, with some celebrating on March 29th, others on March 30th, and others on March 31st. If you receive deferred exam/quiz requests or assignment extensions on these grounds, please consider them as valid circumstances. Changes to Registration Overrides - March 17th

Hello UMAE, Following up on an email sent in February, and based on discussions held with the FLOW group, we are moving forward with changes to registration overrides, effective March 17, 2025. In SSB9 (New Aurora), Advisors will no longer be able to use self-service for registration overrides; all overrides will need to be entered in Banner admin pages. We will be making the switch to use Banner admin pages prior to summer registration, removing it from Aurora Classic on March 17th. This will allow staff to adjust to this change during the summer registration period to prepare for the fall/winter registration period. Whether the topic is medical school requirements, and the related need to pick a new major, plagiarism, impending academic dismissal or how to manage academic responsibilities when the student's parent is dying of cancer, having the necessary skills to manage that conversation with the proper blend of authority and grace, are of paramount importance. When we first begin work at a new institution, we typically receive training related to school-specific policies, requirements and culture. Given that most people don't willingly engage in difficult or confrontational discussions, given that our work requires heavy interpersonal communication, that we don't tend to receive related training and support is unfortunate. However, it's never too late.This webinar is designed to assist faculty advisors/mentors and advising, student success and student service staff and administrators at the post-secondary level. The presenter draws on more than 15 years of experience as a college administrator to discuss the following areas: interpersonal communication during challenging moments, the ability to maintain a calm disposition under stress, and how to avoid common pitfalls when navigating difficult student situations. Important Updates from the Aurora Modernization Project

Hello UMAE! We have several updates from the Aurora Modernization Project team and wanted to draw your attention to some upcoming changes. New My Exams card on Aurora Launch Page A new My Exams card is available for students from the Aurora launch page, showing students their personal exam schedule, which has now been published for the Winter 2025 term. Note that the My Exams functionality remains available for students and advisors in Aurora Classic until summer 2025.The project team will be exploring a replacement for advisors to view a student's exam schedule. This is an example of what it will look like. Locations and alpha-splits will be added once they are confirmed after the VW deadline. [A screenshot of a computer AI-generated content may be incorrect.] New Tuition Fee Appeal Request form February 24, 2025 As of Monday February 24, 2025, students will see a new form when submitting requests for Tuition Fee Appeals. The existing card on the Aurora launch page will bring students to a form where they can indicate the reasons for an appeal and upload supporting documents. Once submitted, the request will initiate a workflow for review within the Registrar's Office. As a result, the PDF form is no longer needed so staff will no longer see the form on the website or in Aurora. Please see the Appealing Your Fees<https://umanitoba.ca/registrar/tuition-fees/adjustments-refunds> section of the website for more information. T2202 Forms in New Aurora 2024 T2202 tax forms will be available to students in New Aurora, from a card on the Aurora launch page. Note that the forms will need to be downloaded, and the functionality to do so may differ depending on the browser the student is using. We will be communicating about the T2202 forms through various channels and they will be available to students at 10:00 AM on Friday February 28th. Tuition & Fees Pop-up window in Registration Summary We have received feedback from students that this information has caused confusion; the pop-up window only displays charges to the student account for the specific term, but it does not display payments or reflect opt-outs. As the full tuition account summary is available separately in Aurora with a comprehensive view of charges and payments, the decision has been made to deactivate this Tuition and Fees pop-up window in the Registration module. This decision was made in consultation with FLOW (Faculty Leads Operations Working Group). Finishing up Fall term...looking to Winter

Good Afternoon UMAE! I'm writing to with an update around UMAE meetings and to share some exciting news about the Charge Ahead Peer Mentorship program (Charge Ahead). I am happy to announce that Usman Rana has been hired into the Student Transitions Lead position, replacing Stephanie Young who has moved on to work with our colleagues in Admissions. Some of you may know Usman as he has been with Charge Ahead as a mentor since its inception and took on a leadership role over the recent Summer and Fall terms. Usman is a graduate of the Faculty of Science and brings with him passion, enthusiasm, and expertise around helping students achieve their best in both academics and personal endeavors. I am very excited to have Usman in this role and look forward to the exciting initiatives to come out of the Student Transitions and Success Centre. Along the same lines, this is also a "Save the Date" for the Grand Opening of the new Charge Ahead Program space in room 107 Tier. Formerly a student lounge for President's Scholars, we have been able to convert the room into a warm, friendly, and inviting space for students to drop in, attend individual meetings with Mentors, and to offer student success workshops. Our Grand Opening celebration will be held on January 30, 2025 from 10-2. We'll send a more formal invitation to the opening in January. And finally...unfortunately, we were unable to connect regularly over the Fall term, so to prevent that from happening again, you'll see below a tentative schedule for UMAE meetings to be held in Winter term. I will send Outlook invitations with meeting agendas in the new year, but please note these dates in the meantime. January 28, 9-11 am February 25, 9-11 am March 25, 9-11 am April 22, 9-11 am As we wrap up Fall 2024, I encourage you to reflect on the impact you've had on students both individually and collectively. As advisors, we have an opportunity to deeply impact students and I can say with certainty that there are thousands of students who achieved their personal best this term, whatever that means for them, because they connected with us. I am certainly proud of the work we do as advisors and I hope you all are as well. I wish all of you a warm and cozy holiday season filled with yummy treats, lots of laughter, love, and peace. Good morning, Please find attached the latest communication that has gone out to ICM students who planned on transferring to the UM at the end of this term. More to come as other supports and processes are finalized. Main takeaways from today's communication: UM Admission Status * Students who applied to UM for the January start term will have their January application updated to General Studies as a Visiting Student. Admission to General Studies as a Visiting Student will allow ICM students to register in coursework at the UM for the Winter 2025 term. This will allow you to continue your studies with no delays. * The UM will also move your transfer application for degree studies to May 2025 start term (no additional application fee). * Documents by both ICM and UM will be provided to help support your study permit application for this transition to UM for May 2025. * Upon receipt of your new study permit for the UM, and upon meeting the entrance requirements to your selected program, you will be eligible to transfer in the May term (assuming your study permit is only approved after the start of classes in January and prior to the start of classes in May). Course Registration Options: * We are in the process of identifying additional UM courses that can be offered at ICM to keep you on track academically, allowing you to pursue your second year of academic studies. * A full courseload must be maintained between ICM and UM courses (as a visiting student), with compliance and support primarily provided by ICM. You will continue to have access to supports and services at both ICM and the UM as you have in the past. * We understand that course registration is a stressful process in the best of times, and these recent changes will add to the stress levels immediately prior to exam time. To help students in this difficult circumstance, we will introduce a new priority registration timeslot as part of ICM enrolment, allowing all those who have 30 credit hours or more have first selection at courses when returning student enrolment opens on Thursday, December 19th. Group Chats: We wanted to remind everyone about how to access support and get answers to your questions. Unfortunately, we have not been able to monitor multiple chats on Teams regarding the change. There were several chats that were ongoing from separate meetings and sessions held previously and we indicated that those meeting chats could not be monitored on an ongoing basis as other supports would be in place. It became unmanageable to monitor all those separate chats to provide timely responses, and not one single chat group was inclusive of all stakeholders. The Advising community is invited to try out the registration functionality in New Aurora at hands-on sessions. I am writing to provide information about an option for International students whose first language is not English and who are facing or on academic or disciplinary suspension. These students may benefit from a referral to the English Language Centre<https://umanitoba.ca/english-language-centre> to explore enrolment in the Intensive Academic English Program (IAEP)<https://umanitoba.ca/english-language-centre/intensive-academic-english>. These students should be advised to make an appointment with a Regulated International Student Immigration Advisor (RISIA) from the International Centre before making a decision about the IAEP<https://umanitoba.ca/sites/default/files/2020-06/elc-english-flyer-web.pdf>. It is important that international students understand the impacts of transferring from a degree program to an ELC program on their study permit conditions; eligibility to work in Canada while studying at the ELC; and their eligibility to obtain a Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) after the eventual completion of their degree program. Referral to ELC – international students on academic/disciplinary suspension

Dear Academic Advisors: I am writing to provide information about an option for International students whose first language is not English and who are facing or on academic or disciplinary suspension. These students may benefit from a referral to the English Language Centre<https://umanitoba.ca/english-language-centre> to explore enrolment in the Intensive Academic English Program (IAEP)<https://umanitoba.ca/english-language-centre/intensive-academic-english> as a way to maintain their full-time student status, for IRCC purposes. These students should be advised to make an appointment with a Regulated International Student Immigration Advisor (RISIA) from the International Centre before making a decision about the IAEP<https://umanitoba.ca/sites/default/files/2020-06/elc-english-flyer-web.pdf>. It is important that international students understand the impacts of transferring from a degree program to an ELC program on their study permit conditions; eligibility to work in Canada while studying at the ELC; and their eligibility to obtain a Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) after the eventual completion of their degree program. Next steps: unpaid fall 2024 tuition fees

Hello everyone, This message is being sent to you in collaboration with Financial Services and the Registrar’s Office. We wanted to provide you with an update on upcoming processes to handle outstanding fall term fees. As you are regularly in touch with students, please encourage them to check their UM email accounts as this information will be sent to them via email over the next few weeks. This information is for advisors only, please do not repost on social media sites. To ensure you have information at your fingertips, here are some important pieces for you: 1. The fall term fee payment deadline was October 2nd. 2. The first late fee was applied to student accounts on October 7th, in the amount of $50. 3. An email will be sent to students who have an outstanding balance, and holds will be placed on accounts by approximately October 10th. 4. On approximately October 16th, Finance will send a ‘deregistration’ notice to students who still owe. The email will advise that students must clear up all owing fees by October 31st or they will be subject to deregistration. 5. The second late fee will be placed on November 1st: * $50 on balances between $500 and $1,000 * $100 on balances over $1,000 1. De-registration from winter 2025 classes (and winter/summer spanned classes) will begin the week of November 4th. Students who are on hold or de-registered from classes due to an outstanding balance should make arrangements to pay their fees as soon as possible. Halloween Spooktacular Event - in support of the UM Food Bank

Hello, The UofM Food Bank invites you to participate in our upcoming fundraising event to support students in need of our campus food bank. With over 500 students visiting each month, we are calling on the entire UofM community to come together for this important cause. This time, we are hosting a SPOOKTACULAR CANDY SALE! We would love your help by contributing a bag (or box!) of your favorite Halloween candy. Our team of dedicated volunteers will sort and pack the candies into spooky bags to sell across campus, with all proceeds going directly to the purchase of food and hygiene products to support students who rely on the food bank. We will send our details in the following weeks on how to surprise your colleagues across the Fort Garry campus! Harvesting your gardens in support of the UM Food Bank!

Hello colleagues, If your gardens have been bountiful this year, and you are looking for ways to use your fresh vegetables….look no further! The UM Foodbank would appreciate your support. Please feel free to drop off your garden veggies to the Foodbank Monday through Friday (located in room 518 UMSU University Centre). We are open 10-4 daily, but ideally, if you can drop off donations in the morning we can circulate them to our students before the end of the day! We will gladly accept items that can sustain shelf storage for 2-3 days (for example, onions, potatoes, tomatoes, carrots, cucumbers). Please ensure they are in good shape for our students. [cid:image001.jpg@01DAF249.FC77E060] Dear colleagues and friends, I am pleased to announce Rebecca Brooks as the Director of the Career, Community and Experiential Learning Centre (CCELC). Rebecca has over thirteen years' experience in post-secondary education and has held progressive leadership roles at the Manitoba Institute of Trades and Technology, which included Dean of Academic Programs. Recently they were the Team Lead for Programs and latterly for Teaching Initiatives and Innovation at the UM's Centre for Advancement of Teaching and Learning. Rebecca holds Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Education degrees from the University of Manitoba and a Master of Education degree from the University of Saskatchewan. They will be starting doctoral studies in Education this fall with a focus on inclusive assessment practices and its intersection with competency-guided learning. Rebecca's career in post-secondary has centered on experiential learning. This includes leading learner-centred EL program development; collaborating with industry and community partners to enhance and expand programming; embedding career development learning within academic programming; and developing and implementing competencies frameworks to enable the articulation of transferable skills between work, life and educational contexts. Rebecca was a vital partner in the development of the UM competencies framework. For the past three years they have worked collaboratively with Student Affairs on the Experiential Learning initiative and is well poised to take a leadership role in this area. Rebecca is a strategic leader and innovator and is adept at building partnerships and finding connections. They value relationships and take an empathetic, inclusive, and developmental approach to working effectively with colleagues and teams. I am thrilled that Rebecca will be joining CCELC and the Student Engagement and Success leadership team within Student Affairs. Their official start date is August 26. Hi All, Please see the message below from Jim Honeyford and Monique Dumontet from Academic Learning Centre The Summer University Advantage Arts 1110 course that starts later this month has space available and we're wondering if it might help to remind advisors (FYC and elsewhere) about the course. The course runs for 5 weeks (July 22 to August 22), and it carries W credit, so it is very writing intensive. It would be a good fit for newly admitted students (no more than 6 credit hours completed when the course begins) who are in town/on campus, looking for a course to take, and ready to work hard for 5 weeks. Because of the unusual timing of the course, registration is handled differently than other summer courses; students must apply to the Summer University Advantage (SUA) program in order to be registered for the course. The deadline to apply to SUA is July 12. Faculty of Education Announcement of Introduction to Teaching Course- Information for Academic Advisors

Dear Colleagues, I hope you are doing well. As we approach student orientation sessions and registration for the upcoming 2024-25 academic year, I wanted to bring your attention to a new course developed by the Faculty of Education; Introduction to Education: What does it mean to Teach? I know that our Communication Coordinator, Alejandra González had sent some information via your coordinators but thought I would share a bit more information about the course. The faculty will be offering two sections of the course this Winter (EDUB 1790 A01 and EDUB 1790 A02). The course has been approved for the RIC list and is open to all UM students seeking or thinking about a career in teaching. This course may be used for credit in a student's first degree subject to the regulations of their faculty however, it cannot be applied to the Faculty of Education's programs. Also note, that the grading scale will be that of the Faculty of Education. The minimum passing grade of C (70-74%) is required. There will be limited space (class maximum 35) as we want to ensure that the course offers ample opportunity for student engagement and exploration through in class learning groups. If you have students interested in a teaching career, they may want to register for the course as soon as their window opens. The course sections will have a wait list. The faculty has created a landing page where interested students can learn about the course, the course instructor(s) and hear from instructors about it. About St John's Residence St John's Residence is a small, 100-bed community-focused on-campus residence. Science Advising Services during Machray Hall Redevelopment

Good Afternoon, Please share the following with your staff as needed. I am sure as you are all aware, the Faculty of Science advising office is moving! Beginning Tuesday, May 28th, we will be seeing students in our new location: 55 Chancellors Circle, room 404, for the foreseeable future as Machray Hall undergoes redevelopment<https://umanitoba.ca/science/machray-hall-redevelopment>. There will be a short disruption to our advising services while we re-locate. Starting on Thursday, May 23rd at 3pm, our office in 230 Machray Hall will be closed to students. Our phone queue will also be turned off at 3:00 pm on May 23rd until 8:30 am on May 28th. The outgoing message will direct students to various other supports on campus. Deferred exams and final Admissions Document deadlines

Our understanding in Admissions is that last year there was a significant increase in deferred exams due to the new policies in place. At times students applying to professional programs forget that deferred exams might affect their admission. As you are meeting with students who are requesting deferred exams, we would ask that you remind them that if they are applying to any profession undergraduate programs they should do the following: 1. Applicants must inform the Admissions office via email to their program admissions address if they are writing a deferred exam (i.e. admissions.engineering(a)umanitoba.ca<mailto:admissions.engineering@umanitoba.ca> or admissions.dentistry(a)umanitoba.ca<mailto:admissions.dentistry@umanitoba.ca> etc.) 2. Admissions will need to know the course, the date the exam will be written, and when the grade can be received. 3. Deferred exams must be written, and the marks received in Admissions by the document deadline (typically June 1st). Document deadlines are posted in the program Bulletins. Below is the statement we have across all of our Bulletins: It is the applicant's responsibility to inform the Admissions Office in writing of any deferred exams or grade changes. All final grades, including grade changes must be submitted to the Admissions Office by the document deadline in order for them to be included in the final selection process. Grade changes will not be accepted after the documentation deadline date. If a grade is not available by the documentation deadline date, an 'F' grade will be used in the final admission determination and calculation. The UMAE is an excellent resource and networking opportunity for Academic Advisors and those who offer direct support to students through their time at UM. In past, Brigitte Wiebe provided facilitation support for UMAE and other advising initiatives. As University Advising Services now falls within Student Transitions and Success Centre, we have explored and developed a new model for the Advising Community to come together around advising initiatives, systems and tools, sharing best practices, professional development, etc. In the coming weeks, you'll be invited to a MS Team where we'll be able to store resources, share information and more effectively communicate with each other. As you may be aware, the upcoming exam period overlaps with the conclusion of Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr. The UM Spiritual Care & Multifaith Centre is offering the following information that we hope is helpful when responding to students who are making deferred exam requests due to their observance of Eid: * Ramadan begins on March 11th, [1] culminating with Eid on April 10th this year (note- the dates vary year to year and may not always overlap with the final exam period). * During this time, students will be fasting during the day (no food or drink), only breaking their fast daily at sundown (approx. 8:00 p.m.). [2] For exams scheduled in evenings that may overlap with this, students should be permitted to defer exams or, if they choose to write the exam, be allowed to eat and drink accordingly. This could vary from student to student. * In addition, sleep is greatly impacted as individuals will be waking at 5:00 a.m.[3] daily and also engaging in nightly prayers. In combination with the daily fasting, this can contribute to feelings of fatigue and difficulty concentrating, which may impact their ability to write morning exams. * Finally, Eid is the most important holiday in the Muslim calendar and should be considered in the same way as Christmas Day or Good Friday. Muslim students should not be expected to write exams on this date. Please note that there is some division in the Muslim community about which date Eid is to be celebrated on, with some celebrating on April 10/11 and others on April 11/12 or April 12/13, depending on the sighting of the New Moon. If you receive deferred exam requests on these grounds, they should be considered valid circumstances. Charge Ahead Peer Mentor Support

There are 24 appointment slots available each week, so students are likely to find an appointment time that works for them. We have three undergraduate mentors and one graduate mentor available. The mentors are also running a workshop series on Tuesdays (1:00-2:15) from January 23 - February 14. Happy Friday Everyone, I am pleased to share that Justin Bouchard has accepted the position of Academic Advising Data Visualization Specialist in the Student Transitions and Success Centre. As a longtime UM employee, and through his various roles (Dean of SJC Residences, Student Advocate, Academic Advisor in FAFS, and in the project for this role), I expect Justin is familiar to many reading this message. I am pleased to welcome him (permanently) to the Student Transitions and Success Centre, and back to the Student Affairs family. As the role is new, I'd also like to share a bit about the position and the work Justin will be doing. The Academic Advising and Data Visualization Specialist has two main responsibilities: (1) delivery of academic advising within the Student Transitions and Success Centre (STSC) and (2) development and implementation of academic advising tools and systems across the UM advising community. The position explores and furthers initiatives that support UM student retention and progression, including identification of student populations for whom intrusive academic advising strategies would be of benefit. In partnership with UM units and departments, including Student Affairs, faculty, and other advising offices, Justin will engage in data analysis activities to develop and implement analytical models in order to influence and support evidence-based academic advising strategies and best practices. Justin will continue his work (from the pilot position), including development and maintenance of user-friendly systems (eg, new DW process), interactive visualizations and dashboards, and data analysis in support of the UM advising community. NACADA Region 6 Manitoba Liaison

Hello, My term will be up as the Manitoba Liaison for NACADA Region 6<https://nacada.ksu.edu/Community/Regions/Region-6.aspx> at the end of March 2024, and we are looking for someone else to take over for the 2024-2026 term! I have served 2 consecutive 2-year terms, and it's been a wonderful learning experience with a lot of professional development with some very motivated advisors across the region. The time needed to be a part of the steering committee is very manageable, with there being a 1-hour virtual meeting once a month and some planning/goal-setting documents to review and contribute feedback to. Region 6 is a great team, and I'd highly recommend that anyone who is interested in getting some more experience with committee work and some professional development consider this opportunity. New Aurora Demo Video

Hi everyone, The Aurora Modernization Project team spent two weeks in November talking to students and gathering input to help shape the New Aurora system. At various locations, Pop-Up booths provided students with a video preview of the New Aurora hub and an opportunity to share feedback through a short survey. We received a lot of positive feedback from students based on what they saw in the video and heard ideas about which functions would be most helpful. Ultimately, we heard a lot of excitement about a new interface that is mobile-friendly. We would like to share the same short demo video with the Advising community, so encourage you to watch it on the Aurora Modernization Project SharePoint<https://umanitoba.sharepoint.com/sites/um-intranet-aurora-modernization-pro…> site. The go-live plan will be a phased approach to rolling out new functionality for students in 2024, likely starting in March. This means that there will be incremental changes throughout the coming year. More details will be provided as the plan is developed and we will be working on opportunities to provide more details about what things will look like and how they will work. Important update VAHC hours - Winter 2024

Hi everyone, Hope you are doing well. I wanted to give you a heads up about a change in the work hours of Virtual Advising Help Centre. From the beginning of the winter term(January 2024), we will be only available during the regular UM work hours i.e. Monday through Friday, 8:30am-4:30pm. This means VAHC will be closed during the evenings and weekends. We're changing our work hours because we have noticed significant drop in our evening and weekend traffic. I wanted to share with you that the deregistration process from Winter 2024 courses due to outstanding fall term tuition fees will begin today. Students owing fees for fall, have been reached numerous times via their UM email accounts from the Cashiers Office, to advise them of their lateness and next steps. The deregistration process should not be a surprise to students at this point. However, I am sure you will have students reach you, so we thought it was important that you were aware. Students should arrange to pay for their fall fees immediately. Once paid and reflected in Aurora, the student should contact the Cashier's Office to request the hold on their account be removed. They will be eligible to register for winter term courses (with available space) the following day. Student Accessibility Services exam information

Hello to all Advisory Exchange Members, I wanted to provide some information about the upcoming exam session. Please feel free to distribute this information to your faculty/school/college and instructors as needed. Student Accessibility Services We have a test/exam booking deadline of November 22, 2023 for any exams occurring December 1-22. We have sent this information via email to all students registered with our office. Please note that students have received multiple reminders of the deadline as we approach November 22. Due to the complexities of scheduling and room/invigilation logistics, students who do not book prior to the deadline may not be accommodated. December exam locations We will be using space in five buildings across Fort Garry campus and two buildings at Bannatyne campus to accommodate the number of in-person exams. Students will be notified by email of their exam location no later than the day before their test or exam. Online uploading of exam details The online scheduler is available 24/7 for students and faculty to use. Student instructions for the online scheduler: https://umanitoba.ca/sites/default/files/2021-09/scheduling-an-exam-on-the-… Online scheduler: https://sasclockwork.cc.umanitoba.ca/ClockWork/custom/misc/home.aspx Using the online scheduler, Instructors can enter test details, provide their contact information, and upload a secure copy of their test to the database. Please note that, due to the 30% increase in test bookings, our in-person service will be slower than usual during the exam period. Please try to avoid in-person visits to the Exam Centre at 9am, 1:30pm, and 6pm on final exam days. We will be starting individual exams for hundreds of students at these times and will not have staff immediately available to assist you. January We will be able to accommodate bookings for exam deferrals with one week's notice in the month of January. The regular two-week booking procedure will apply for the remainder of Winter Term. The booking deadline for exams occurring in the month of April will be March 15, 2024. New students We are ready to welcome new student referrals. However, due to the multiple steps and personnel involved, academic accommodations can take several weeks to implement. Keeping with the theme this year, the conference is rooted in NACADA's Core Competencies - Conceptual, Informational, and Relational. As such, in addition to a great selection of related concurrent sessions, MAP has contracted with a premier keynote speaker from NACADA's Speaker Bureau - Dr. Mevash Ali.
