Dear colleagues,
I am pleased to announce that my office is hosting an Academic Support Staff Conference on May 30 and 31.
We are excited to offer this opportunity for all academic support staff, such as program administrators, student advisors and other positions which provide support to student and faculty members. The goal of the conference is to offer professional development in topics that are relevant to their roles, and to demonstrate our appreciation for the essential work they provide at our institution.
Both days of the conference will have the same program schedule in order to facilitate coverage for staff positions. There is no cost for attendance.
The conference will include plenary sessions for all attendees and smaller break-out sessions. There is limited capacity for the break-out sessions, so spots will be filled on a first come, first served basis.
View the Academic Support Staff Conference program<https://umanitoba.sharepoint.com/:u:/r/sites/um-intranet-provost-vice-presi…>.
Registration is available here: Academic Support Staff Conference registration form<https://reg.learningstream.com/reg/event_page.aspx?ek=0099-0030-90EFCD5E642…>. The deadline to register is May 13.
Please distribute this information to the academic support staff in your unit. I hope that each of you will support and encourage participation from those in your unit.
Thank you.
Diane

Subject: Call for Applications – University’s Support Staff Endowment Fund (SSEF) Committee
Importance: High
CALL FOR APPLICATIONS
Please forward to all support staff in your area and print & post to staff bulletin boards.
The University’s Support Staff Endowment Fund (SSEF) Committee is making its annual call for members to fill anticipated vacancies.
The SSEF is a University of Manitoba established trust for the purpose of supporting activities relating to professional development for support staff. This committee works to encourage employee connection, engagement and learning. The SSEF annually distributes the interest from the endowment fund for activities through awards for education or training and sponsoring or co-sponsoring engagement events that bring the support staff of our community together. Annual activities may include participation in organizing the Support Staff Learning Exchange, awarding textbook and other learning awards, hosting guided campus walking tours, and coordinating the VIP Folklorama bus tour.
This is your opportunity to collaborate with other support staff from across our campuses and create programs and events of interest to your colleagues. This vibrant 12- member committee meets 6 times a year at the Fort Garry Campus and attending virtually is possible. In addition to the committee meetings, members have working group or sub-committee responsibilities.
Terms are typically for three years and a variety of roles are available. The committee seeks representation from all campuses and from excluded support staff (EMAPS) and members of bargaining units.
If you are interested in serving on the University’s Support Staff Endowment Fund (SSEF) committee, we invite you to apply by completing the attached form.
Applications are due by 4:00 pm on February 29th, 2024 to: Jasmine.Brar(a)umanitoba.ca<mailto:Jasmine.Brar@umanitoba.ca>
For more information on the SSEF, please visit: https://umanitoba.sharepoint.com/sites/um-intranet-career-development/SiteP…
Note: SSEF committee membership is limited to support staff that hold a continuing appointment of .5 or greater.
Sincerely,
Jasmine Brar
