As you gear up to connect with incoming first-year students over the coming weeks, we encourage you to share information about Summer University Advantage (SUA)https://umanitoba.ca/summer-university-advantage with students who are looking for productive ways to spend their summer and prepare for a successful transition to university.
Summer University Advantage is designed to help newly admitted students build confidence, develop academic skills, and establish connections before beginning their studies in the Fall. Through a variety of programming and activities, students can familiarize themselves with university expectations while connecting with peers, staff and campus supports.
Students can participate in:
* ARTS 1110: Introduction to University: a 3-credit hour course that fulfills the written (W) requirement for most degree programs.
* Coffee Chats for Success: a series of interactive workshops that promote skill development in positive psychology and holistic learning.
* University Math Prep: a series of tutorials designed to help students refresh key mathematical concepts and build confidence before starting university-level coursework.
* Community Thursdays: weekly sessions focused on building connections, exploring campus resources, and fostering a sense of belonging.
While ARTS 1110 carries regular tuition fees as a credit-bearing course, all supplementary SUA programming is offered at no additional charge to students.
If you encounter students who are wondering how they can make the most of their summer prior to starting university, SUA is an excellent way to get a head start on the transition to university. Bonus: students can earn experiential learning recognition for their participation.
