Message from Laurie Schnarr, Vice-Provost (Students)
Dear students,
As you may be aware, the Province has declared a state of emergency due to rapidly developing wildfires in the Thompson region, Snow Lake, and surrounding areas. We know that many University of Manitoba students have personal connections to those affected, and we want you to know that we are here for you.
If you need support, please don't hesitate to reach out. The University offers a variety of resources to help during this challenging time:
* Visit the UM Student Supports webpagehttps://umanitoba.ca/student-supports for access to wellness and academic resources. * For emergency financial assistance, see https://umanitoba.ca/financial-aid-and-awards/emergency-loans. * If you require academic arrangements, please contact your instructors directly.

We are committed to supporting you through this difficult period. Our thoughts are with all Manitobans impacted by the wildfires, and with those who have loved ones living, working, or studying in the affected areas.
Be well,
....Laurie

I acknowledge, with humility and gratitude, that the University of Manitoba campuses are located on original lands of the Anishinaabeg, Ininew, Anisininew, Dakota and Dene peoples, and on the National Homeland of the Red River Métis. As a white settler of English and German descent I am committed to walking alongside Indigenous students, colleagues, friends, and neighbours and doing the work that is necessary to honour the truth, and contribute through meaningful action to lasting positive change.
