The study looked into 35 crashes involving a person aged over 50 who had suffered a fall or a collision with an obstacle or with another bicycle or moped rider.

Before safety, environment and health come into play, cycling should be state of mind. This is the conclusion drawn by Henk Lenting, a student of Traffic Psychology at the NHL Polytechnic. In his thesis, he compares the motivation for cycling in the Netherlands and England.

Give the bicycle path back to cyclists
The city of Amsterdam had put forward this request in late 2013, and was supported by the three other major cities. Interest groups like the Cyclists’ Union are in full support. In the words of Hugo van der Steenhoven, general manager of the Union, “This is a way to return the cycle track to the cyclists and to reduce their exposure to air pollution. The cycle track will regain its main purpose: safe, clean space for all cyclists. We receive frequent reports from elderly persons and parents of children, saying they no longer dare to cycle”.

Mama Agatha documentary about cycling course for migrant women
In a short documentary called Mama Agatha follows a cycling course for migrant women in Amsterdam. The main objective of the film is to show people that something as simple as a cycling course can have a major impact on peoples' lives and radically improve their mobility - not only physically, but also socially.
Reward system encourages commuters to take up cycling
Two Dutch regions have launched schemes to reward motorists and other commuters who are prepared to leave their car and switch to cycling.

Biggest Dutch Experience Centre for bicycles
A new Experience Center for bicycles is planned to set up in the summer of 2015 in the town of Ede.

Bicyle mobility and sustainable energy have the future in the Mexico City megalopolis

On 16 and 17 June, the Dutch Embassy in Mexico City and the Dutch Cycling Embassy organised a two-day Round Table conference for Mexican authorities and businessmen. The goal was to share concrete ideas and information on how the existing infrastructure in Mexico City can be converted into a green and livealbe city in a sustainable way.

Pedalafest in Zagreb
On 5 till 7 June, a three day Cycling Festival took place for the second time in the student centre of Zagreb. Two Dutch cycling experts of the Dutch Cycling Embassy attend the festival.

The first bicycle sharing scheme for Uganda!
Bicycle sharing schemes are not new. But they are new for Uganda. Friday, 6 June saw the festive launch of the "Bicycle sharing at Makerere University" project.

Workshops in Bangelore, India

In early June, a broad delegation of 8 persons visited Bangalore, India. The goal of the mission was to present planning practices in the Netherlands and to encourage the cities to develop bicycle master plans. The Dutch mission was made possible by the huge efforts of Dr. Elenna Dugunji and the Dutch Cycling Embassy.
