Memo re: PLEO 1. Advanced Communication Skills (ACS) Summer Reading and Viewing Hello, We hope you all enjoyed your fieldwork and are enjoying a bit of a break now, this summer. We are writing to remind you of the requirements as you come into the PLEO 1 course, specifically, the 'Advanced Communication Skills' portion. You will need to purchase the Counselling and Therapy Skills; 5th Edition (Martin & Johnson) textbook so that you can read it over the summer; it is required reading to prepare for the learning coming in ACS. This portion of the course starts at the beginning of the school year, and you need to be ready to work immediately. This is because you 'hit the ground running' with practicing your communication skills in your situational client-therapist partnerships with the incoming MOT1's. You may remember that this section of the course, which includes five "counselling" sessions with the MOT1's or a designate (some students may be matched with a new grad), must be completed prior to them leaving for their Basic placements. You are expected to learn the theory and content throughout the summer and will write the exam in the second week back at school. It is a multiple choice and short answer-based exam. You will need to demonstrate an understanding of the material, before you can proceed into your 1:1 sessions. We will then use the Fall Term learning how to apply the material and develop a basic understanding of a therapy/counselling process through practice and application. Please note that the exam is completed in person on your laptops. Please ensure you have everything ready. If you have accommodations and plan to write with SAS you will need to arrange this with them in advance, so please ensure you connect with them soon. We will be using Respondus for this exam. Along with reading the textbook, there are several other steps that will need to be completed prior to starting your ACS classes. We have outlined them below: 1. Bike Camp helps children living with a disability learn to independently ride a two-wheel bike using adapted equipment, trained professionals, and volunteer support. About 80% of riders learn to ride independently, while the remaining riders make tremendous progress toward that goal. Training is provided, and volunteers help encourage and support riders during their sessions. What to Expect as a Volunteer: * Walk, jog, or run alongside a rider during a 75-minute session (with short breaks). * Support and encourage riders while providing physical assistance when needed. Volunteer dates: Week 1: June 29-July 3 Week 2: July 6-July 10 Location: East End Arena Transcona - 517 Pandora Ave E You can register for one shift, one day, one week or both weeks. From February 12 to February 13, you’re invited to take part in a pivotal decision that will impact the future of students in the Department of Occupational Therapy. The 2026 Council Referendum is your opportunity to vote on the future of the Student Initiative Fund (SIF)—funds that help enrich the academic experiences of Occupational Therapy students. ________________________________ What is the Student Initiative Fund? The Student Initiative Fund is designed to empower students through initiatives that support academic excellence and student-driven projects. These funds are supported by student contributions on a per-credit-hour or per-term basis, and your vote will determine how they are allocated. Hello everyone, Welcome back! Happy New Year! I hope you had a great holiday break and first week back! Even if you are late or will only be missing part of a class, we ask that you complete the form. Also, please follow up directly with the course coordinator to let them know how you will make up for the absence and to determine if make up work is needed. Students needing accommodations, please remember to send letters to your instructors from the SAS portal regarding your required accommodations. We are also looking for note takers. Registration Reminder: Winter 2026, GRAD 7300 & GRAD 7500

Dear MOT1s, I hope this message finds you well. This is a gentle reminder regarding Winter 2026 registration and the completion of required tutorials. 1. Winter 2026 Registration All students must register for each academic term to maintain program status. For Winter 2026, please ensure you are registered for the re-registration course: * Master's Re-registration (GRAD 7020) - CRN: 50187 2. GRAD 7300 - Research Integrity Tutorial Completion of GRAD 7300, a zero-credit, pass/fail online course on the Responsible Conduct of Research, is required. * Winter 2026 CRN: 58105 * Must be completed within the first year or prior to submitting research ethics applications. 3. GRAD 7500 - Academic Integrity Tutorial Completion of GRAD 7500 (or GRAD 7501 for French instruction) is also mandatory. This zero-credit course covers academic integrity responsibilities. * Winter 2026 CRN: 53733 (GRAD 7500) * Must be completed in the first term. Exceptions to Winter 2026 Term Re-Registration: * Students on a Parental or Exceptional Leave do not have to register in the term(s) for which this leave is approved. Students on a Regular Leave are still required to register for the re-registration course in each term. * Those who anticipate graduating in February 2026 are not required to register for the Winter 2026 term. Note: Students who anticipate graduating in May 2026 must register for their final Thesis/Practicum/Comprehensive Exam/Project or the final course specific to their program in Winter 2026. Re-registration in GRAD 7020/GRAD 8020 is still recommended in case the graduating term is delayed.
