Dear Students,
We are inviting healthy volunteers to participate in a research study exploring the structure and function of extra-diaphragmatic respiratory muscles. This study is being conducted at the Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg by researchers from the College of Rehabilitation Sciences, University of Manitoba.
Study Overview:
Purpose: To assess respiratory muscles function in healthy individuals and their relationship with physical and respiratory function. What’s Involved?
* One-time, one-hour visit to our research facility.
* Non-invasive tests (muscle ultrasound, lung function tests, fitness assessments, etc.).
* No blood draws or invasive procedures.
* Completion of three brief questionnaires on daily activities and quality of life.
Who Can Participate? • Healthy adults
Who Cannot Participate? • Current smokers • History of acute or chronic cardiovascular or pulmonary disease • Neuromuscular disease • Cognitive disease that may impact test performance • History of thoracic or abdominal surgery • History of thoracic or abdominal trauma • Thoracic or abdominal deformation • Current pregnancy • History of cancer
Why Participate? • Support innovative research in rehabilitation sciences and respiratory health. • Receive feedback on your muscle strength and lung function if desired.
