All students registered in the B.Ed. program are to choose two sessions from the options listed on the website, one for each time slot. Session descriptions and the link to register can be found on our UM Education page: Faculty of Education | University of Manitoba (umanitoba.ca)<https://umanitoba.ca/education/> in the main banner area. You have until noon on Friday, December 15th to register. Register early to ensure you can attend the sessions that interest you the most; session capacities are limited by classroom size and fire code regulations. You will register for two workshops during the day and the sessions will take place as follows: Session 1: 10am - 12 Noon Lunch: 12 Noon - 1pm Session 2: 1 - 3pm Some session descriptions note a general level (Early, Middle, Senior Years) focus. Most sessions, however, are geared to compliment your cross-stream learning. In Manitoba, teacher certification allows you to teach at any level and you never know where your career may take you. As with all Professional Learning Days hosted by the Faculty, attendance will be noted by the session speakers. You will not have to enter your attendance, as this is not considered a practicum day but a professional learning day for all enrolled B.Ed. students. Thank you. The day is scheduled as two half-day workshops with a 30-minute health break during each workshop and a 1-hour lunch break between sessions. (Session 1 - 9am - 12 Noon. & Session 2: 1 - 4pm.) All students registered in the B.Ed program are to choose two sessions from the options listed on the website, one for each time slot. You have until November 1st to register - but don't wait, there are limited spaces available. If you are unable to register for a particular workshop, don't despair, most sessions will be offered again on January 8, 2024. Students taking field trips with their classes in November do no have to register for the November Program Day but will register for sessions when the January form opens. Reminder, please join Dr. Lucy Fowler from the Faculty of Education virtually TODAY on October 19, 2023 - 12 - 1 pm as part of the Indigenous Scholars Speaker Series. ***Shared on behalf of Dr. Cary Miller, Vice-President (Indigenous)*** The Office of the Vice-President Indigenous hosts a speaker series featuring Indigenous scholars at the University of Manitoba. These talks highlight the research and expertise of Indigenous scholars, while providing new opportunities for students, staff and faculty to learn about Indigenous perspectives and knowledges. On October 19th we will be highlighting Dr. Lucy Fowler who will be doing a talk titled “Situating my Scholarship: Tensions and Possibilities in Metis Academic and Community Work”. Dr. Lucy Fowler shared that as a Métis educator, academic, and community organizer, her work is centered on her people. Research and scholarship situated in community has unique benefits and challenges that are not possible in work that is separate from community members. In this talk, Dr. Fowler will share some of her own academic journey, including the co-creation of Métis specific academic work alongside other Métis scholars, on-going research consultations with Métis peoples, and what she sees as wise practices for community-engaged scholarship. Corrected information for Practicum Mondays and the Block from the Bulletin

Hello, thank you to those who reached out to let us know there was conflicting information in the latest Bulletin. We are correcting the mistake and will resend the bulletin. In the meantime, pleas see below for the info you want to use when reading about the Practicum Mondays and the Block (the accurate dates are italicized). Revised: Teacher candidates will attend their Practicum Schools on Monday, October 23 and 30. Teacher candidates will not attend Practicum Mondays in their host schools on Oct. 2 and 9 because the University of Manitoba is closed on those days (National Truth and Reconciliation Day and Thanksgiving). The October 16 practicum day has been moved to Friday, October 20, and you will attend your Friday B.Ed. classes on that Monday instead. Friday, October 20 is MTS SAGE PD Day, which is a required practicum day because it is just simply a terrific learning and networking opportunity (and will be part of your professional learning when you are a certified teacher). Please register for a full-day or two half-day sessions. We will look forward to the block beginning on November 20, which follows the Fall Reading Break.
