We’d love to have a student volunteer who can chat with guests about the nutritional benefits of each item and share a bit about what studying Human Nutritional Sciences is like! Fall 2025: Flu Vaccine Requirement

Dear Students, As we move deeper into the fall season, it's important to take proactive steps to protect your health and the health of those around you. Flu (influenza) vaccination is a requirement of the MAHN program. This vaccination is mandatory for all students in the program to ensure the safety and health of our community. Vaccination clinics are available across Manitoba, and many accept walk-ins. Many start as early as next week. You can find a convenient location to get your flu shot, whether at a pharmacy, clinic, or public health site by visiting the WRHA’s immunization page: https://wrha.mb.ca/flu-covid-19-immunizations/ . Also consider asking your preceptor if there is a flu shot clinic set up at your work site during your placement. Process: An important part of the accreditation process is the survey team's interviews with all key educational program participants. Their input is an important component of the assessment and serves to validate the educational program's evaluation and quality improvement processes. We hope that your time spent with us has helped deepen your understanding of the challenges that people face when living in poverty, and how you can better provide trauma-informed care as a dietitian and advocate for change as a professional and community member. Dear Students, Please read this e-mail carefully. It contains important information about the first week of the MAHN program. The MAHN program orientation schedule is attached. Attendance at all events during MAHN orientation are mandatory including the FHNS Ice Cream Social on September 10. You are required to attend all sessions, to arrive on time and to remain for the entre session/day as per the orientation schedule. The first few weeks of the program are intense with a lot of assigned readings and new information. Sunday September 14 will be the due date to complete the Dietitians of Canada "Swallow Screen and Assessment Course". This course will take 5 to 6 hours to complete and will be available at no cost to you. If you are not satisfied with your grade for this course and wish to do a rewrite you may do so at your own expense. This course counts toward 2.5% of your grade for HNSC 7700. You can work ahead on this assignment if you choose. Be sure to retain your certificate of completion as you will be required to submit the certificate on UM learn by September 14. We have printed copies available for purchase at the UM Bookstore for $17.50+ tax. If you prefer to print your own copy, a PDF version of the handbook will be available on the UM Learn 7700 course page which will be available starting orientation week.
