Learning & Organizational Development (LOD) has opened our training and development workshops to the end of November. These are available exclusively to University of Manitoba employees.
**NEW: Several workshops will be held at the Bannatyne Campus this fall on October 1, 8, 22, 29 and November 19.
Some training opportunities that may interest you include:
Manager's Forums: October 19 or November 16 (NEW): These lunchtime Manager's Forum sessions offer leaders across the UM community an opportunity to connect with peers and engage in meaningful dialogue on topics relevant to their roles. At the October 19 session, participants will explore a real UM workplace conflict case and reflect on the role of the manager in navigating complex situations. At the November 16 session, participants will explore the role managers play in shaping workplace culture through everyday actions, decisions, and interactions. All are welcome to register for either, or both, of these online sessions.
Taking Minutes for Meetings: November 5: This workshop provides participants with the skills needed to fully perform the tasks and meet the responsibilities of anyone who may be called upon to take minutes at a meeting. During the workshop, participants will explore how to prepare for and take minutes, including how and when to incorporate AI tools to facilitate effective minute taking.
Ethics: Decisions & Impacts (NEW): November 19: LOD offers a customized, four-hour ethics workshop designed for university employees who are interested in learning more about ethical behaviour and decision-making, and for those who require completion of an ethics workshop to maintain their professional designation. Note - this is the last offering for 2026.
Introduction to Human Resources (NEW at the Bannatyne Campus): November 19: This full-day workshop provides an overview of human resources at the university. Topics relating to hiring, onboarding, development, staff relations, performance management and retirement are covered. This workshop can be taken on its own, and is also the pre-requisite for workshops in the UM Human Resources Essentials certificate program.
Foundations of Management (NEW at the Bannatyne Campus October 1; Fort Garry Campus November 4): This workshop introduces the fundamentals of management by exploring the "being" and "doing" of the managerial role. Participants will identify their values and workstyle to better understand their behaviours, communication, and areas of challenge. Discussions will include the expectations of a UM manager, aligning practices with strategic priorities, and reflection on the role of managers in advancing reconciliation.
