The Manitoba Neuroscience 12th annual meeting will be held on June 6th, 2025 @ the beautiful Winnipeg Art Gallery. Abstract submission is now open: follow the attached instructions. 1. Click here to submit: https://auth.oxfordabstracts.com/?redirect=/stages/78304/submitter The Scientific Program Committee will select Abstracts for Oral Presentations from Faculty and Graduate students, if submitted before May1st, 2025. Late abstracts will be only accepted for poster presentations. Last day for abstract submission is May 20th, 2025. Suggested format for Annual Meeting Abstracts

Dear MNN community: I have received a question regarding Abstract format for MNN annual meeting. While there is no fixed format for a scientific abstract, here are some suggestions for a scientific abstract. If you already have submitted an abstract, we will accept it as it is and there is no need to replace it. Also as you are submitting your abstracts through the Oxford Abstracts portal, you can select any category (1-3). That feature should have been inactivated. Please disregard it. The body of abstracts should not be longer than 250 words. Suggested format: "These are the basic components of an abstract in any discipline: 1. Motivation/problem statement: What are you studying? Why do we care about the problem? What practical, scientific gap is your research filling? 2. Methods/ approach: What did you actually do to get your results? Examples include the species, age, and sex of experimental subjects and whether sex differences were assessed. Summarize efforts to ensure scientific rigor, including sample sizes and replication, blinding, and which controls were used. There is no requirement to include full experimental protocols, but sufficient information must be given to indicate how the experiments were performed. 3. Results: As a result of completing the above procedure, what did you learn? State a clear description of the outcome measures to support any conclusion you wish to make. If numerical data are presented as mean values, the standard deviations or standard errors should be given; the form used, and the n values should be stated. When statistical significance is shown, name the statistical test. Data may be conveyed by a combination of Methods and Results, i.e. an outline of the technique followed by the data obtained. Specific details about procedure and results are omitted unless they are very important. 4. Conclusion/implications: State the conclusion(s) supported by the results above, without including any metrics (numbers should be restricted to the sentences described above). What are the larger implications of your findings, especially for the problem/gap identified in step 1? Include consequences/impact of the research in the field." [cid:image001.jpg@01DB7BED.3C911BD0] 2025 Nick Shepel Neuroscience Trainee Travel Award Application deadline: Friday, May 16th, 2025 Background: The fund was established by the Division of Neurodegenerative & Neurodevelopmental Disorders, St. Boniface Hospital Research Centre, to honor Nick Shepel who was an outstanding researcher, friend and leader. Nick was a true inspiration to his laboratory partners and brought fire, humor, and a desire to always excel. His insistence to always try better has had a permanent effect on his lab mates and peers. Nick led by example and taught that detailed preparation and execution of experiments ensured reliable results. Purpose: The purpose of this fund shall be to recognize a young investigator(s) (specifically in the neuroscience area) by providing an annual award(s) to support travel costs associated with the applicant's attendance at an upcoming national/international conference where the applicant is presenting a poster or oral presentation. This year, award(s) are available with a value of up to $750. Eligibility: At the time of application, the following conditions are required: * Students must be registered as a full-time graduate student in the College of Medicine at the University of Manitoba. * The area of research being presented at the conference must relate to the field of neuroscience. * A student admitted under the "Provisional Status" may not receive the award during the provisional period. * Number of award(s) may vary each year. * Students must be giving an "IN-PERSON" poster or oral presentation at an upcoming scientific meeting (national/international). Virtual attendance does not qualify for award. * Students who have received this award previously should not apply.
