Subject: RE: Weekend waterer- Buller Greenhouse
Hi, Cathy. Here's a more cohesive summary of the position(s):
Position: This is an unposted student position.
Hours: 4 hours every Sat. or Sun. (or both days every other weekend, alternating with another waterer),
Wages: My best guess is a starting wage of $16.89+ (this is for a Tech. 1, Step 1). The exact classification and wage will be determined by the Faculty of Science HR people and will depend on your experience and previous employment/seniority at the UofM or AESES union.
Tasks: watering and pest control (using water, insecticidal soap, insect predators) at Buller GH and two daily inspections at CTC (Crop Technology Centre) which is our research greenhouse. The inspection is done via an app or a physical checksheet, and you would receive training in the skills you need. Experience with a variety of plants and pests is an asset!
Requirements:
* Experience with growing/maintaining plants is required.
* Summer availability is important. We can accommodate a couple of weekends off (everyone needs a holiday!), but need whoever we hire to be committed and responsible for weekends, some STATs and occasional holiday coverage during summer (usually a day here and there if you are available during the week).
* Knowledge of pests and how to deal with them is an asset.
* Experience with greenhouse systems and maintenance of old buildings is an asset, but not required.
Please let me know if you're interested. If you think this might be a good fit for you, but want to know more, we could meet in-person or on Zoom. Feel free to pass along my contact info if you know anyone else who might be qualified and available.
My full contact info is below. Thanks, Cathy.

Subject: Weekend waterer- Buller Greenhouse
Hi, Cathy.
Thanks for offering to share with Jacqueline.
Jo-Anne
Do you have (or know of) a grad student interested in a weekend waterer position at the Buller Greenhouse?
4 hours every Sat. or Sun. (or alternate weekends with another waterer), watering and pest control at Buller GH and two inspections at CTC. Summer availability is important. We can accommodate a couple of weekends off, but need whoever we hire to be committed and responsible for weekends, some STATs and occasional holiday coverage during summer. Experience with growing/maintaining plants is required. Most of the grad students I've talked to are interested but are gone for a month or more each summer doing field work, which is difficult to work around.
Our current (and only) weekend technician will be leaving us in December so we'll ultimately hire two people.
Appreciate it.

Hi all,
Registration for Fall and Winter terms opens July 21.
Before you can register yourself, you have to complete the appropriate registration approval form - attached.
Please return the signed form to me and I'll remove the hold that prevents you from registering without having your courses approved.
If your progress report was submitted after June 1 you will likely still have a progress report hold on your record that will also prevent you from registering. You'll have to keep checking for this hold to be removed.
Please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.
Best regards,
Martha

modified due to wet conditions
TUESDAY, JULY 5, 6:30 PM - 8:00 PM
Glenlea Research Station (20 km south of the U of M on Hwy 75)
