Subject: Research Manitoba's 2017 Strategic Planning Survey
Dear Associate Deans (Research)/Research Liaison Officers:
On behalf of Research Manitoba, please distribute this email to researchers in your units for their participation in the 2017 Strategic Planning Survey.
Research Manitoba's mandate is to promote, support, and coordinate the funding of research in the health, natural and social sciences, engineering and the humanities in Manitoba. In the 2017 Provincial Budget, Research Manitoba's budget was reduced by $2 million to $15 million.
Research Manitoba is planning for the next three years and you are being asked to provide feedback that will help identify opportunities and considerations moving forward. Your responses to this survey will be anonymous. The information you provide will be collated and used to support the development of Research Manitoba's strategic plan.
Please take the time to complete the survey (https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/T9YPWSV) and submit it as soon as possible. It should take approximately 20 minutes to complete. If there are questions that do not apply to you or your area of expertise, please skip the question. You do not have to complete the survey in one sitting. However, please note that you must complete all answers on each page as pages with incomplete answers are not saved.
Research Manitoba would like to encourage broad participation in the survey so please feel free to share the survey link with your colleagues. We apologize in advance if you receive the link to the survey more than once. The survey will end on Friday, 15 September 2017.
If you have any questions about the survey, please contact ambrosio.catalla(a)researchmb.ca<mailto:ambrosio.catalla@researchmb.ca>.

Please distribute the attached Current Funding Opportunities ORS Weekly Update<http://umanitoba.ca/research/ors/media/Current_Funding_Opportunities_Weekly…> (September 8/17) to researchers within your unit.
The ORS Upcoming Major Funding Opportunities<http://pasweb.cc.umanitoba.ca/extapp/ors/pubapp/umfo.php> search is maintained by the Office of Research Services (ORS). It promotes current and specific funding opportunities identified by ORS (both Canadian and International).
SPIN<https://spin.infoedglobal.com/Home/SOLRSearch> is a funding opportunity database owned by InfoEd Global and contains programs from more than 10,000 global sponsors (both Canadian and International). This site allows for keyword setup to receive funding alerts.
ORS deadlines for submitting research proposals and Funding Application Approval Forms, (unless otherwise posted) are as follows:
For large, complex grant applications, e.g., tri-agency major programs, those that require matching funds and/or additional institutional support, etc.:
* 2 weeks in advance of agency deadline
For other standard grants:
* 7 days in advance of agency deadline
As a reminder, researchers should work with the University's Research Facilitators<http://umanitoba.ca/research/ors/research_facilitators.html> early in the proposal development stage, for assistance in strategic research planning and proposal review.
Thank you.

The following email is sent on behalf of Dr. Digvir Jayas, Vice-President (Research and International) and Distinguished Professor:
Dear All:
In April of this year, a schedule of ADR/RLO meeting dates for 2017/2018 was distributed to ADR/RLOs, as well as to Research Grant Officers, Research Facilitators, and others. Following consultation and feedback with ADR/RLOs last term, I would like to try utilizing ADR/RLO meetings differently this year. Specifically, I would like to hold smaller meetings primarily with ADR/RLOs. I anticipate that as future agendas are assembled and finalized that it will be beneficial for Research Grant Officers, Research Facilitators, or others to also attend; please keep this year's schedule of meetings in your calendar. Therefore, unless indicated otherwise, this year's ADR/RLO meetings will consist of the VP (Research and International), the AVP (Research), the AVP (Partnerships), and the ADR/RLOs. If a meeting is dedicated to research in, say, one of the three Tri-agency areas, i.e., humanities and social sciences, natural sciences and engineering, or health sciences, then only a subset of the ADR/RLOs may wish to attend. Also, if a particular topic requires the presence of one or more research facilitators or other personnel, we will invite them to that particular meeting, as needed.
Thank you.
