To: Department Heads, Graduate Chairs, Deans, Directors, Award Contacts & Current UMGF Recipients
In response to the federal government scholarship increase, the Faculty of Graduate Studies will increase the University of Manitoba Graduate Fellowships (UMGFs) annual award value rates for new and ongoing UMGF award recipients effective September 1, 2024.
* Master’s award will increase from $14,000 annually to $20,000 per year.
* Doctoral award will increase from $18,000 annually to $25,000 per year.
New award rates will not retroactively apply to any period of award prior to September 1, 2024, UMGFs ending August 31, 2024, will not receive an increase to their UMGF award value.
These increases will automatically be applied to all new and ongoing awards and no action is required. Eligible recipients will receive the increase as well as the retroactive payment to September 1st on Friday, October 25, 2024.
Award Holders:
* No action is required.
* New bi-weekly rate (approximately) - PhD $960 (was $692) & Master’s $769 (was $536).
* UMGF bi-weekly payments will continue to be automatically deposited to your Canadian bank account.
* Check VIP<https://umanitoba.ca/information-services-technology/enterprise-application…> for your bi-weekly payment amounts and paystub.
