Dear Awards Contacts: Please note the following news/updates pertaining to FGS Awards: 1. UMGF Renewal - The minimum GPA required to renew UMGFs has been revised from a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.50 to degree GPA effective immediately. This revision was approved by the FGS Executive Awards committee and the information has been updated on the UMGF Award Holder's Guide. 2. GETS (Graduate Enhancement Tri-Council Stipend) a. The contact for this particular funding initiative has changed. Please forward any GETS inquiry to Rowena Krentz, Awards Officer at Rowena.Krentz(a)umanitoba.ca<mailto:Rowena.Krentz@umanitoba.ca> or 204-474-9836 b. We recently changed the software for the GETS on-line application. This may result in an error message for applicants. Applicants who receive this error message must either clear their browser history or cache, or refresh the page. Alternatively, they may also refer to this link https://universityofmanitoba.formstack.com/forms/gets 3. The value of the IGSES and IGSS is increasing due to the Board of Governor's approved increase in the international student differential fee effective Fall 2015 term. The exact value will be confirmed upon it's availability from the Registrar's Office, however, these awards will increase to approximately $2,500 per term starting in the Fall 2015 term. 4. Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarships competition is now open. Kindly distribute this information to eligible students. Hello everyone, In consultation with the Faculty of Graduate Studies Executive Awards Committee, the following changes will be applied to UMGF policies and procedures for the next renewal process: UMGF Award holders must maintain a degree GPA of 3.50 in order to renew their UMGF. Renewals were previously based on cumulative GPAs. Note that UMGF renewals will be based upon GPAs in Aurora at the end of the academic year (April/May) and a satisfactory Progress Report due to FGS on June 1st of each year. An email will be mailed to current UMGF and MGS recipients regarding the new policy and the UMGF Award Holder's Guide has been updated. Kindly forward this information to faculty and staff in your unit who may find this information relevant. If you require further clarification, please do not hesitate to ask. Dear Awards Contacts: The results of the 2015-2016 SSHRC Doctoral Fellowship competition have been released to Awards Officers and Deans of the Faculty of Graduate Studies of eligible institutions: I will email Departments/Units a copy of the letter sent to successful applicants (includes details of the award), shortly. The correspondence will also identify recommended UMGF applicants who are deemed ineligible for the UMGF due to their success in the Tri-Council competition. If your students fall under this category, please forward another applicant as a replacement Per Tri-Council's mandate, "please note that no public announcement of the award(s) can be made prior to the official announcement of the results by the Government of Canada (any public statements or press releases). Universities will be provided with the details on the announcement when confirmed."
