Good morning D2 Class, I would like to meet with you and your class for 20 minutes on Wed., Sept 15, 2025 from 1:30 - 1:50 in Garvin Theatre (D018). The purpose is to conduct a needs assessment of students in terms of AI use for learning. I have done this with the D1s, D3s, and D4s and wish to invite your class to do the same. The survey takes on average 10 -12 minutes to complete. I have received ethical approval (see attached). More details are below. I look forward to meeting with you all. Dieter Artificial Intelligence Use by Dental Hygiene and Dentistry Students (July 2025) My name is Dr. Dieter Schonwetter and as the Director of Academic Services and Professor at the College of Dentistry at the University of Manitoba, I work closely with dental and dental hygiene students and academics, fostering their academic and professional development. My research focuses on the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning, exploring innovative strategies to enhance education and professional growth within dentistry and beyond. I wish to invite you to participate in this study on artificial intelligence used by students and academics. Purpose & Benefits: This survey examines faculty experiences, attitudes, and needs regarding AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Grammarly) in teaching and research. By exploring use across universities and disciplines, the study aims to guide the development of AI resources, training, and policies to support educators and researchers. Your insights will help shape AI's role in higher education, enhancing support, resources, and policies. Participation: Participation is voluntary. By completing the survey, you provide your consent. Confidentiality: No identifying information including email nor IP addresses are collected. Responses are confidential. No direct identifiers are collected. Only group-level analyses will be reported. Ethical Approval: Approved by the University of Manitoba Health Research Ethics Board (HS26761; H2025:002). Survey Details: The survey includes 86 quick-response and 8 open-ended questions on AI use in teaching and research which will take approximately 10 minutes to complete. Consent: By completing this survey, you agree to participate and allow your responses to be used for the purposes outlined. Definitions: * AI tools: Applications like ChatGPT, Grammarly, or GitHub CoPilot used for academic tasks. * AI resources: Materials or guides supporting effective AI integration in academia. * AI training: Instruction on using AI tools for teaching, research, or administrative tasks. Professional Misconduct

D2 Class, It has come to my attention that individuals within your class were recording clinical activities on Mon 25 August 2025. This is a breach of professional conduct. I have not been provided with individual names so I am sending this message to the entire class realizing that you may not all be involved. Have any of you been to the physician's office or been to any medical clinic and noticed signs indicating that videotaping, photographs or recording is strictly prohibited? Any patient treatment area is a protected space where recording, videotaping and photography is not permitted without strict adherence to clinic protocols and policies. Within the dental college Main Clinic any type of recording or photography must be authorized by the patient and made to be used for diagnosis, treatment planning or managing of a condition or disease process. I would ask all of you to review the Clinic Manual 2025-2026 and ensure that you are clear on the policies and procedures that guide your conduct within the clinic. DENT 2 - Credits

Hello Dent 2 students, As per usual, if you are ever in need of extra supplies or replacement instruments throughout the year, come see Jenna or myself down in Dental Stores. Any items that need to be purchased you will sign for, and it will be added to your Axium account as a running tab that will be asked to be cleared at the end of each term. Payments are only accepted upstairs with the Patient Care Coordinators (PCC's) at clinic reception. In your kits, you have been allotted a set number of items/consumables for the year based on the recommendations by the Course coordinators. The College has offered some of those items to you by means of credits as a buffer for the year (not a part of your tuition). We will track your credits down here in Dental Stores, if those credits are depleted, they are available to purchase. The Frasaco Practice teeth are still able to be traded, tooth for a tooth - if they are intact, clean and unprepped. Burs can be traded as well - a class representative will be required to collate the students' burs into individual bags and make arrangements with Dr. Boorberg for the traded burs. HSC Safety and Security Drop-In Meetings

Message from Dr. Chris Christodoulou, Interim President and CEO of Shared Health Critical discussions with multiple partners to address the safety concerns surrounding Health Sciences Centre continue. The safety of our staff, patients, and visitors is paramount, and we have a shared responsibility of ensuring a safe and supportive environment for everyone who walks through our doors. As we move forward, we recognize that the most meaningful progress will come from working together, uniting our voices and expertise. We must listen carefully to one another and, most importantly, honour the lived experiences of those who are on the frontlines at our facilities who have witnessed firsthand the impacts of the current challenges. We do not take this situation lightly. The road ahead may be complex, but I believe by collaborating and fostering an environment of openness and respect, we can drive the positive change needed to improve the safety and well-being of everyone at Health Sciences Centre. This is why I would like to invite you to be part of this ongoing dialogue. Your insights, concerns, and ideas are invaluable as we work together to chart a successful path forward. We need to hear from you. Over the next few weeks, members of the HSC executive and I want to meet with you to engage in candid, meaningful discussions about your safety.
