Please read the email below: From Lisa: Applications are now open for the men's gathering for students who identify as men. It's Sept 30-October 4th; priority will be given to those who can leave by noon on October 2nd (however, leaving later can be accommodated). I'm just trying to balance knowing you have classes with wanting you to have enough time to get into the experience. Travel, food costs, and a contribution to the camp on our behalf will be covered by the RBC Experiential Learning Travel Fund. Clinic Update - 14 September 2026

Dental and Dental Hygiene Students, It has been a busy start to the new academic year which is great to see. A couple of points to pass along to help keep you all on track: 1. Rotation schedule - the rotation schedule is a live document; there will be changes to it as the year progresses. It is your responsibility to check the rotation schedule at least on a weekly basis. If there are any last-minute changes (within the week) then Kat will send you an email to update you. If it is more than a week out, then an email will NOT be sent as the expectation is that you are checking the schedule regularly. 2. Treatment plans - DO NOT copy and paste treatment plans from last year or treatment plans that were not made by you. 3. Hygiene treatment - not all patients have been assigned to hygiene students yet. We are working on setting up a designation in axium so it will be clear which patients are being held for hygiene student assignment, and which will be for the dental student to complete. For now the expectation is for the dental student to check: * SPT - if hygiene student completed the last SPT then it will remain with hygiene students * NPP- confirm with your PCC, anything complex perio will be held for dental hygiene students - they require this for their requirements so please do not proceed 4. Hygiene recall exams - if a dental student completes a CTP, or treatment plan update, or treatment plan update no charge, the dental student needs to request open access to the patient's chart and the procedure code needs to be under the dental student. The hygiene student completes the interprofessional note, the dental student completes the treatment plan, and a general referral is sent to reception if there are treatment needs. 5. It is the student's responsibility to confirm and know what the patient's insurance coverage is and communicate that with the patient. If you are unsure then discuss this with your PCC BEFORE your patient's appointment. For example CDCP covers 1 recall exam per 12 months - you need to know when this was last charged out so that you can follow this schedule and/or communicate with your patients when treatment may or will not be covered. Treatment costs cannot be a surprise to your patients - communicate. 6. Make sure you are updating axium when you have seated your patient and when you have dismissed your patient from the clinic. In case of an emergency we need to know exactly who is and is not in the clinic at any given time. 7. Ensure you are following IPAC protocol. Hand hygiene audits are underway. Any severe breaches may impact your ability to work in the clinic environment. Keep yourself and your patients safe. Have a great week. Trenna M. Hi class, Please read the entirety of the email as it contains important information regarding clinic: If you experience a no show/late cancellation or are unable to book a patient please look for another student to assist at the beginning of session. While you do not accumulate grades for assisting you can learn a great deal by going through the motions of comprehensive treatment planning or formative treatment with your colleague. If the Floor Lead determines that there is no need for additional assistants, it is at this point you can request to work on the Photography Assignment but the first priority in clinic is always providing consistent, high-quality clinical care to our patients. It is essential that you plan your radiographs properly once you and your instructor have prescribed them. This means that you have to fill out the RADREQ form in its entirety and then in the patient's EHR you must plan the codes according to the total number of images you will take. For example, If you are taking 4 BW and 3 PA, you will plan 7 images (02117). The RADREQ form and the codes must be swiped by your instructor before you make an appointment in Radiology. If you do not do these steps correctly, Radiology will not allow you to take your images and will send you back to clinic to complete what is necessary. In addition, do not forget to complete your Radiographic Findings which must be swiped at the end of session. Finally, it is essential to remember that the individuals under your care are your patients - not the previous' provider. This means that you are responsible for comprehensively treatment planning the patient in their current condition. As I mentioned in class, you may use outstanding treatment as a guide in your treatment planning but it is up to you to ensure that the procedures you are planning are still, in fact, indicated for the patient. For example, if the patient is planned for an nsRCT on tooth X, you must still confirm this and determine the current endodontic diagnosis of tooth X through endodontic testing and establish that it is still restorable and verify it is periodontally stable. For this reason, it also means that you must get the appropriate consults before you can plan the treatment. Do not rush your treatment planning appointments. In D3, especially at the beginning of the year, treatment plans often take 2 appointments unless they are simple and straight forward. For CTPs which require an additional appointment, simply put the treatment planning code (01201 or 01201U) In Process and schedule another appointment with the patient. We must ensure we have gathered all the required data to devise a comprehensive plan that allows us to continue to provide clinical excellence through evidence-based practice. Reminder – Endo Thursday PM Scheduling

Hello D3 & D4 students, This is a reminder that you may not schedule Endo on Thursday afternoons unless you have signed up for a Endo spot in the Google Drive document: Here is the link for the doc: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1HLoQJZHtVUXunZK7kE6n6PHXGzSlWMTsInfUE71… There are only 4 spots with the endodontist and 2 spots with GP. Please do not add extra lines under the endodontist list to fit your name in. Bookings can only be made up to 2 weeks in advance. Please do not place your name on the list every week beyond that limit as it will be removed. The cap on Endo chairs is in place to ensure adequate supervision and availability of equipment.
