Dear Students,
This is a reminder about the upcoming CNS Thematic Conference on January 31. You are welcome to attend with your preceptor's approval. As the conference is related to competency attainment, a missed day policy form is not required.
If you are interested in attending, please contact Alli to RSVP for the conference, as she is the representative for the FHNS GSA Council.
Additionally, if you would like to join the supper following the conference, please let me know by January 14. The supper will take place on campus at Degrees and will include information about career opportunities at PMH. It's an excellent chance for you to network!

Hi MAHN students,
Thank you again for attending our Poverty Awareness practice workshop! We hope that your time spent with us has helped deepen your understanding of the challenges that people face when living in poverty.
EVALUATION FORM
If you haven't yet, please complete the workshop evaluation form<https://forms.office.com/Pages/ResponsePage.aspx?id=C92AT4wzTE6KFJBEaWL3uKT…> by this weekend. This is the last required component for your attendance.
The survey has an opportunity to sign up to be on our newsletter, where we'll share future opportunities for community engagement and training in poverty awareness and EIA.
SUPPORT CIRCLE
If you are looking for a volunteer opportunity, we encourage you to apply to be a volunteer advocate through our PACA Support Circle<https://forms.office.com/Pages/ResponsePage.aspx?id=C92AT4wzTE6KFJBEaWL3uKT…>. The program runs Wednesday evenings, and we are looking for people to provide advocacy support to Andy.
RESOURCES
We've attached our 'What We Can Do' document that shares individual, community, and structural actions you can take, as well as some of our favourite resources. Please take some time to review! I wanted to highlight Make Poverty History Manitoba in particular as they launched a new campaign advocating for a Livable Basic Benefit that would be portable, like Rent Assist.
We've also attached two resource presentations on EIA and NIHB benefits. Remember that it is important to go to source material to get the most up-to-date information!
All the best,
Anny

Dear MAHN students,
Please see attached resource produced by the Manitoba Eating Disorders Committee for all healthcare providers on helpful language when discussing eating, weight, and mental health. They are hoping to spread the attached resource far and wide - particularly to doctors, nurses/NPs, mental health workers, etc. across the province.
NEW LEARNING RESOURCE: Enhancing conversations about eating, weight, and mental health: a starting point for Manitoba healthcare providers
Situation
Based on data from international research suggesting a 4-5% prevalence rate in North America, an estimated 53,000 to 67,000 people in Manitoba have symptoms sufficient for an eating disorder diagnosis. Even more are impacted with eating, weight, or mental health challenges that have not been supported yet.
Language matters, and many healthcare providers are unsure about how to talk about these topics in a way that builds trust and contributes to effective patient care.
What we've done
Healthcare providers across Manitoba who have experience working in eating disorders met over the period of 6 months to co-write an introductory, four-page guide that any healthcare provider can pick up and use.
This resource provides suggestions for how healthcare providers can implement weight-inclusive language when talking about weight, disease management, and behaviour changes with adult patients.
What we want you to do
1. Read this resource. Consider how to implement its learnings into your practice.
2. Share with fellow healthcare providers (e.g., team meetings, newsletters, online messages, conversations)

Dear MAHN students,
As we prepare for the upcoming December experiential learning week, please review the following important details carefully:
* For the PACA workshop, if applicable, please ensure you complete the pre-workshop form, especially if you require any special accommodations.
* For all independent study times, this time is to be used independently, however, room 304-5 HE will be available for individual or group study. Please note that all sessions outside of independent study time are mandatory to attend.
* The DC Critical Care course may take up to 20 hours to complete. Carefully review each section before attempting the exam and take notes. You must achieve at least 80% to pass, and you will have two attempts. If unsuccessful after two attempts, you will be required to retake and cover the cost of an additional attempt. Prior students have found this course challenging, so please ensure you leave sufficient time for preparation.
* For the enteral and parenteral nutrition sessions, review the EN/TPN sections of the WRHA Clinical Handbook<https://professionals.wrha.mb.ca/nutrition/clinical-handbook/>. You will not be quizzed on this.
* For those attending the RRC Oncology workshop, come prepared and review the sub-module 6 listed under the reading list, each MAHN student will be paired with 2 nursing students to complete the case study. As well, please provide your license plate number to MAHN.info by Monday, Dec 16th to arrange parking.
Attendance at all ELW sessions is mandatory. If you are unable to attend due to a valid reason, you must follow the missed practicum day policy and procedures as outlined on the MAHN Handbook.
Thank you! Looking forward to seeing everyone next week.
Best,
Kam Wan
