Mental Health First Aid – Registration Open to Sessional Instructors (Limited Spots)

Dear Colleagues, We have a limited number of remaining spots still available in the previously advertised Mental Health First Aid training and would like to invite FKRM sessional instructors, particularly those with significant face-to-face teaching time with our students, to register if interested. Dates: Monday, April 20 AND Tuesday, April 21 Time: 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. (both days) Format: In-person (attendance at both sessions is required) The training also includes a required short pre-session reading component. Registration costs will be covered through the FKRM Endowment Fund. Students who have a conflict have been advised to contact their home faculty. Students who are writing on Saturday will receive their location tomorrow via email, (this is our usual process). Anti-Racism Training 2025

Hello, I trust you are all doing well. Please note that the Anti-Racism training is required to be complete for ALL sessional instructors who taught within the 2025 year. Notes from Staff Relations: 1. Employees under CUPE Unit #2 with an active appointment between January 1, 2025 and December 31, 2025, who complete the Mandatory Anti-Racism Training on or before December 31, 2025 as part of their CUPE appointment with the University, will be paid three (3) hours for the training. 2. If the Employee has one or more hourly-rate appointments under the CUPE Unit #2 Agreement, the payment will be made at the highest hourly rate for which they had an active appointment at the time of the training, in accordance with Clause 17 of the CUPE Unit #2 Agreement. 3. If the Employee has a stipend-rate appointment or a distance and online course appointment under CUPE Unit #2, the payment will be made at the hourly rate applicable at the date of the training in accordance with Clause 17.3 of the CUPE Unit #2 Collective Agreement (work in addition). 4. If the Employee has a CUPE Unit #2 appointment in addition to appointments that fall within other unions or exempt groups, the training should be completed under that position and they will not be eligible for the additional payment through their CUPE appointment(s). 5. This agreement is made on a without prejudice and without precedent basis and applies to Mandatory Anti-Racism Training taken between January 1, 2025 and December 31, 2025 only. HR has developed a mechanism to run a report through our central Human Resources office to determine when an employee has taken the training. With this report, central human resources will apply payment according to a set rate, based upon the above parameters, which have been confirmed by an agreement with CUPE 3909 Unit 2. Mental Health First Aid Training through FKRM

Sent on behalf of Dr. Stephanie Chesser & Dr. Sarah Teetzel Dear FKRM Sessionals: Stephanie Chesser and Sarah Teetzel recently requested and received FKRM endowment funding to better equip faculty/sessional instructors to support students facing mental health-related challenges. Through this request, funding has been allocated for 15 FKRM faculty/sessional members to complete Mental Health First Aid certification at the UM. This training will involve one to two-hours of self-directed online learning, followed by two half-day (i.e., four-hour), in-person sessions on campus facilitated by Dr. David Ness (Director, UM Student Counselling Centre) and Arlana Vadnais (Associate Director, UM Student Wellness). Possible dates for the scheduling of this training are currently being explored for the February Reading Week or during/after the Winter exam period. At this point, information is being requested to see 1) who might be interested in obtaining this certification and 2) what dates/times would allow the greatest number of interested folks to attend. FINAL REMINDER: Final Exam Printing and Supplies Information

Hello everyone, Here is your last reminder to get your final exams in for printing. If you still haven't sent in your Exams to RO and you have 50+ students, do so ASAP. If you are doing your own printing, I recommend printing with lots of time to spare in case of any issues. Please see below for more information regarding final exam printing: The exam document must be submitted at least ten business days in advance of your exam date. There are two options for final exam printing and supplies: Option 1 should be used ONLY if you have 49 or LESS students enrolled in a course. Option 2 should be used when you have 50+ students enrolled in a course. Further information can be reviewed on the Departmental resources - Exam printing and supplies page. <https://umanitoba.sharepoint.com/sites/um-intranet-final-exams/SitePages/Pr…> Option 1: For those who proceed with printing their own exams please note the following: 1. Printer: use departmental equipment 1. Considerations for printing: * Format exams using legal size paper (8.5 x 14). * Print a sample copy first to confirm layout, margins, formatting, etc. * Print exams double-sided. * Check current enrollment for the number of exams required (plus a few spares) * For exams seated in multiple rooms, separate exams ahead of time for the number of students in each room. * Confirm the printing requirements and submission deadline with the printing vendor to ensure exams are delivered in time (if applicable). Option 2: For those exams where printing support will be requested of the Registrar's Office (RO), the exam document must be submitted at least ten business days in advance of the exam date. Exam requests can be submitted prior to the exam document being finalized. In this case, please provide the final exam as soon as it is ready and before the 10 business day deadline. You may submit the form without a document attached and later edit your response on the request form to attach the finalized exam document. Submitting exams for print: Requests for exam printing and supply support are open. Complete the online request form.<https://forms.office.com/r/hWTNsiAuSD> * Exams must be correctly formatted and include page numbers and a header on all pages. For an example, please see the Final Exam Header Template - including the Academic Dishonesty Statement<https://umanitoba.sharepoint.com/:w:/r/sites/um-intranet-final-exams/_layou…> <https://umanitoba.sharepoint.com/:w:/r/sites/um-intranet-final-exams/_layou…> * Provide the exam in digital format by uploading it within the Printing Request form. * If dropping off a physical copy (not recommended): * Submit exams in a sealed envelope to the staff drop box at 400 University Centre (on the wall directly across from the door when you walk into the RO). * Do not hand it to a staff member at the front counter. Delivery of printed exams: * Exams will be returned to the department by courier directly from the printing vendor. The RO will not be storing or distributing the printed exams on the day of the exam. * Please ensure the address and phone number for the department is included and is accurate on the form when submitting the request. Upon receipt of printed exams: 1. For reconciliation purposes, please notify the RO, daily of the printed exams received from the courier, by emailing RO.Exams(a)umanitoba.ca<mailto:RO.Exams@umanitoba.ca> 2. Verify exams: Count and check the exams have been correctly printed according to the request. Ensure all pages are included and are of acceptable quality. * Exams seated in multiple rooms<https://umanitoba.ca/registrar/final-exams/final-exam-schedule> should be divided at this stage for invigilators. * If there is a printing discrepancy notify the RO immediately - RO.Exams(a)umanitoba.ca<mailto:RO.Exams@umanitoba.ca> 1. Arrange for secure storage of the exams until the exam session: * Exams should not be accessible to anyone registered in any courses (active students). * Ensure staff are available in case of absences to ensure exams are available on the day of the exam and that exams will be properly invigilated. * Remind instructors to have copies of their invigilator package<https://umanitoba.sharepoint.com/:f:/r/sites/um-intranet-final-exams/Shared…> for their exam - instructors will receive an informational email from the RO prior to the exam period with the forms and instructions for final exams. * Student Accessibility Services will request exams from the instructor as needed.
