MMSA EDI Working Group Applications

Hey everyone, I hope you’re all doing well and congratulations on completing your first exam of medical school! Under the Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) portfolio of the MMSA, 3 working groups exist to address various topics and focus on projects that work towards improving equity and inclusivity in medical school. These groups are: * Race and Ethnicity * 2SLGBTQIA+ * Accessibility The members of these groups take part in various activities throughout the year, including curriculum review, advocacy and information campaigns, and event planning. Some examples of events completed over the past year include: * History and Medicine Showcase Night highlighting how various medical innovations have roots in marginalized communities. Indigenous physicians as well as historians had a sit down conversation while students enjoyed a catered lunch. Part of this event was an Instagram highlight of various innovations that students researched. * EDI and Global Health Conference: the largest student run medical conference in Manitoba is planned by the EDI working group members! Topics of past years include patient advocacy and healing forward, and the conference brings together medical students, residents, staff, and community members over a full day of speaker highlights and interactive sessions. * Curriculum reviews: students in the working groups work with course leads to review course topics and address where equity directed changes and improvements can be made, as well as where new content can be added. More information about curriculum reviews is included in the application form questions. * Lunch and Learn series: students from various working groups brought in speakers to discuss topics, such as working in South Africa as a Black physician during Apartheid, throughout the school year so students could learn from physicians while enjoying a free lunch. * Members are able to join the RFHS EDI committee, and be involved in projects beyond the medical school. * Members may also work with other physicians, healthcare workers and/or community members who can advocate for equity focused changes. The goals and outcomes for the working groups are very much determined each year by the members, so if you are interested in having an idea come to life or to be involved in meaningful work during medical school, joining a working group is an excellent opportunity to do so! Working group members will have their work credited on their MSPR, and this will not interfere with the 2 group maximum for Interest Groups. As membership in the working groups is a 2 year term, members selected in their first year of medical school will automatically be in the working group in their second year as well. Class Council Election

Hi everyone! This email marks the beginning of the Class Council Election process. The election timeline is as follows: * September 9th - 20th at 11:59pm: Nomination Period. * September 22nd – 25th : Voting Period. Only M1 students will vote in this election, and votes will be submitted via an online ballot. * To nominate yourself for a position, please fill out the form below which includes: * The position which you are running for * A written platform of 300 words max (500 word max for Class President candidates) * An optional video speech recording, maximum 3 minutes long (5 minute max for Class President candidates) NOMINATION FORM: https://forms.office.com/Pages/ResponsePage.aspx?id=C92AT4wzTE6KFJBEaWL3uGw… * I have included a document with a brief overview of the duties for each position. ADHD is a highly heritable neurodevelopmental disorder that affects approximately 5% of adults across all genders, ethnicities, and socioeconomic backgrounds. Adults with ADHD often experience barriers in post-secondary institutions due to differences in how they process information creating challenges in areas such as: task initiation, focus, time management, working memory, impulse control, and emotional regulation. While neurodivergence can make academia more challenging, people with ADHD often have unique traits that add value such as creative and innovative thinking and problem-solving skills, the ability to hold multiple perspectives at once, and the ability to maintain a high level of focus and dedication on the subjects they are passionate about. WHAT WILL IT BE LIKE? The group is participatory and facilitated by Jen Porter/SSBC Counsellor. Each of the six sessions will involve a check-in, a brief presentation, and facilitated discussion. WHO CAN REGISTER? This group is for Rady Faculty of Health Sciences and Inner-City Social Work learners who may identify as having ADHD, or experience challenges related to task initiation, focus, emotional regulation, time management, and organization in areas of personal and academic life. The ADHD Information and Support Group is also for learners who are interested in connecting with and learning from their peers, reflecting on their own experiences, and actively trying out new tools and strategies. Please note: Participating in this group will not provide learners with an ADHD assessment or diagnosis. CL2029 - first exam information

Good morning everyone, Your first exam will take place on Monday, Sept. 8, 2025. Reminder to show up early to sign in as there will be a line up for the first exam. Your sign in table will be on the J.A. Hildes side (across from Theatre B). You will be seated in the middle section (long tables). Do not sit in the side areas. 1. Check Entrada for the room you will be writing in. * Accommodated students - you should have received an email from Student Accessibility Services Bannatyne with your room assignment. If you are unsure of where to go, send me an email. 2. You may not bring any bags, phones, food or drinks, smart watches, headphones, hats, etc. Leave it all in your lockers. You will be sent to put them away if you show up with them. If that makes you late past 9:30 am, you will not be allowed to write the exam. 3. You are allowed to bring in the following items * Pens/pencils * Device you are writing your exam on and charger * Simple calculator (no graphing calculators) * Clear bottle with only water 4. You will be given scrap paper when you sign in. You must write your name on the paper and return it at the end of the exam even if you don't use it. 5. In Theatre A, there is a plug for every seat. * If you are writing in another room, plugs may be limited. Make sure you get there early enough to secure a spot close to one. We can also provide extension cords if needed. However, your devices should always be fully charged for exams. 6. You must show your laptop screen to an invigilator before leaving the room to confirm that you have uploaded your exam. If your exam is not uploaded, I cannot mark it. Please make sure to include both the session and instructor which your question pertains to when submitting your question. We will be sending the questions we receive to Dr. Fedirchuk at 6pm today, so please submit any questions before then.
