Subject: could you please forward this IBRO RISING STAR AWARD in
NEUROSCIENCE opportunity for new faculty to your Neuroscience network?
Hello,
I am reaching out to you to ask whether you could distribute this info to
your Neuroscience colleagues regarding an IBRO Award competition for early
career faculty in a Neuroscience-related field.
I am a representative on the IBRO (International Brain Research
Organization) US/CANADA Regional Committee. We have a call for applications
for its IBRO Rising Star Award, for early career faculty in Canada and the
US. There are two awards, 1 for US, and 1 for Canada, for 45,000 EUR. The
Award is for early career faculty in a neuroscience-related field from
diverse and/or underrepresented backgrounds, and who do not have substantial
start-up funds or grant support from other agencies. The Application
deadline is October 11th, 2023.
The IBRO Rising Stars Awards aim to increase the successful transition and
retention of diverse, early-career neuroscientists into academic positions
by providing funds to make a significant difference in their research
endeavors.
The award supports the research needs of early career faculty from diverse
and/or underrepresented backgrounds (racial/ethnic minorities, sexual
orientation, disability, etc) and early career faculty who do not have
substantial start-up funds or grant support from other agencies.

Dear MNN members,
We are pleased to introduce the refreshed MNN Seminar Committee, including
the MNN Executive Committee and our colleagues Henry Dunn, Jill Stobart,
Mark Fry, Zahra Moussavi, Sanoji Wijenayake, and our student voice, Mohammed
Abrar Basha.
In a bid to intensify our commitment and reach, we are initiating the MNN
Student's Seminar Committee. This new formation will work symbiotically with
the principal Seminar Committee. Students across all campuses are invited to
be a part of this committee. To express your interest, please contact us at
<mailto:info@manitobaneuroscience.ca> info(a)manitobaneuroscience.ca by August
21, 2023.
Evolving Dynamics of MNN Seminars:
1. Greater Coordination: Our MNN Seminars will now synchronize with
various seminar series across all Winnipeg campuses and programs. This
endeavour aims to bolster participation and benefit our valued members.
2. Visiting Speaker Series: Our aim is to welcome up to eight guest
speakers and potentially increase this number. Should you wish to suggest
speakers, kindly send their names and a brief rationale to
<mailto:info@manitobaneuroscience.ca> info(a)manitobaneuroscience.ca by August
21, 2023.
3. Neuroscience Grand Rounds: This format will blend faculty and
clinician talks. We have several slots available for local speakers on the
following dates: September 29, 2023; October 27, 2023; November 24, 2023;
January 19, 2024; February 16, 2024; March 15, 2024; April 19, 2024; May 17,
2024; and June 14, 2024. We invite you to express your interest or recommend
others by the same August 21 deadline.
4. MNN Engagement Rounds: Each month, we will focus on a particular
lab. The lab's Principal Investigator (PI) will introduce their research,
followed by short presentations from up to 3-4 of their trainees. The
session will conclude with an informal social hour accompanied by pizza and
drinks. Further details will be shared soon. Investigators keen on
showcasing their labs can reach out to the Seminar Team at
<mailto:info@manitobaneuroscience.ca> info(a)manitobaneuroscience.ca.
All seminars will be broadcast by Zoom or Crowdcast to those who are not
able to attend in person. Our Seminar Team combines the expertise of the MNN
Executive Committee with that of our broader network. The reimagined seminar
structure promises rich dialogue and knowledge sharing, and we eagerly await
your active participation.
Warm regards,
The MNN Seminar Committee
