This week we are looking forward to Sara Ahmed's much-anticipated lecture and Q&A "Closing the Door: Complaint as Diversity Work" on Wednesday, October 2nd, 2019 at the West End Cultural Centre from 5-7 pm. Donations to the 2SQTBIPOC Library will be accepted at the door! Tickets for the lecture are currently sold out, though we are taking names for a waitlist should spaces become available on the day of the lecture. If you want to be contacted, please send your name to be added to the waitlist.
If you prefer to watch from the comfort of your own home, we are pleased to announce that Sara Ahmed's lecture will be live-streamed on YouTube! On Thursday evening, October 3, 2019, The Decolonizing Lens Film Series will be presented at the WAG (300 Memorial Blvd.). Doors open for the reception at 6:30pm (free food, coffee, and tea will be available), and the films start at 7pm! There will be a discussion with filmmakers Gail and Melanie from "Rosie" following the films. This event is free for all to attend!

Winnipeg's many artist-run centres and local galleries will be open late showcasing the work of our city's many talented artists.
If you are in the Ottawa area next week, UMIH is supporting the Expert Roundtable on Canadian Economic Sanctions on Wednesday, October 9, 2019, from 8:30 am – 4:30 pm at the Museum of Nature. Closer to home, the UMIH Research Cluster on Power and Resistance in Latin America will also be presenting a talk on Wednesday, October 9, 2019. More details to follow soon!
Thursday, October 10, 2019, UM Press' Acquisitions Editor, Jill McConkey, will be presenting on The Ins and Outs of Scholarly Book Publishing at 2:30pm in 409 Tier. If you're curious about scholarly book publishing in Canada and learning about how to publish your work, this will be of interest! Jill has worked in scholarly publishing for twenty years, primarily in the fields of Canadian history, literature, and Indigenous Studies.

This week we are looking forward to gathering for Feminist Killjoys: A Sara Ahmed Reading group, from 6:00 - 8:00 pm on Wednesday, September 25, 2019 at Revolution Wellness (433 Graham Ave.). The discussion will be facilitated by Karen Sharma of QPOC Winnipeg. Please note, that this event prioritizes those who identify as 2SQTBIPOC. On Wednesday morning our friends at Thin Air 2019 are presenting Sonja Boon & Kaie Kellough. Wednesday, September 25, 2019 from 11:30 am - 12:20 pm in Cross Common Room, St John's College. The event is free and open to the public!
Unfortunately, Katherine Boyer's talk "Two stitches, hers then mine: Experiences working with the Manitoba Museum Ethnographic Collection" has been postponed until winter. More details will be available in the coming weeks.
