National Forum on anti-Asian racism: Building Solidarities

November 9th 2021 - November 10th 2021
We are excited to encourage folks and community members to attend The National Forum on Anti-Asian Racism: Building Solidarities. This forum will bring together students, staff, faculty and academic leaders, as well as community partners, to engage in a timely and open dialogue about anti-Asian racism in Canada’s post-secondary education sector. Hosted by the Faculty of Arts, this two-day event will build on the important work initiated by the University of British Columbia at its inaugural National Forum on Anti-Asian Racism in June 2021. We are also excited to inform folks that Alex Rana, current UMIH student intern, will be presenting at the forum. Join UMIH research affiliate Melanie Dennis Unrau (Colombia University), Chigbo Arthur Anyaduba (University of Winnipeg), Melanie Braith (University of Manitoba) and Sean Singh Matharoo (University of North Carolina Chapel Hill) in their discussion, part of the Relative Time/Little Time series. We are writing to inform folks that Julie Sze's public lecture, On Climate Justice & Just Transitions, and Agrarian Extractivism in Latin America presented by Ben M. McKay, are cancelled due to the current strike. We apologize for the sudden changes to programming, and we will do our best to re-schedule once we return.
Other UMIH programs except for community-led programming are on suspension for the time being
We welcome folks to attend the Tuseme Conversation Series in partnership with Tusome Books, presenting a discussion on diversity and inclusion between the author of Tony's wheels Mila Bongco-Philipzig and Lisa Dublin, Chair of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion at the University of Alberta.
We look forward to returning with exciting programs that continue to benefit our friends and community for the rest of the term.
