Upcoming Events: Public Lecture: Slender Man and Belief in the Digital Age Wednesday, March 31st, 2021. 5:30PM - 7:00PM CST Join us for a special guest lecture with Jeffrey A. Tolbert (Penn State University Harrisburg) for ENGL: 2190: Books and Bytes: Literature in the Digital Age. This lecture will be live streamed on the UMIH's Facebook page, please also see the event poster attached for more details. New-Opportunities: Call for applications: 2021-22 UMIH Research Clusters, Graduate Fellowship & Research Affiliates - Deadline May 14th, 2021 The UMIH call for applications for the 2021-22 Graduate Fellow, Research Clusters and Research Affiliates are now open! These unique opportunities were designed by the institute to support and create space for scholars doing important research work & endeavours in the humanities. See attached posters for each call and details on how to apply. On-going Opportunities: UMIH External Grant Support: The UMIH is seeking proposals for its External Grant Support program. An initiative to help researchers in the Faculty of Arts who are seeking external funding for conferences, workshops, colloquia, and other local research events. This program was designed to provide opportunities for scholars to secure support, both cash and in-kind, from the UMIH in order to leverage funds from other agencies. Of Interest: What I Was Meant to Do: Black Women Teachers in 20th Century Canada with Dr. Funké Aladejebi (History, University of Toronto) Tuesday, April 6th, 2021. 1:30 PM CST Join the Department of History, University of Manitoba, for a special guest lecture discussing Dr. Funke Aladejebi's forthcoming book Schooling the System: A History of Black Women Teachers (McGill-Queen’s Press<https://www.mqup.ca/schooling-the-system-products-9780228005391.php>. This talk will explore the importance of Black Canadian women sustaining their communities and preserving a distinct Black identity within restrictive gender and racial barriers.
