Hi all,
Our next meeting is this coming Sunday at 1:30. The University of Winnipeg is pretty much closed. Enter through Centennial (at the South End) and go to security; they will take us up to our regular room (2B23) to meet. Try to be on time (at 1:30). It’ll probably make it easier.

Hi Scott,
I’m copying this to the committee since I’m not really on top of the recording issue. As I remember it, the conditions were simply that he record it for us, giving us, and Jane, final approval of any edits to the recording. We would own it, but once it is posted, he could show it on his youtube channel. For this we would pay him. I forget how much, but we didn’t think he would charge us very much. Does anyone remember if we discuss a concrete figure?
I my memory correct, everyone. Please chime in.
Jim

Sylvie - could you please circulate this when you get back? Thanks! Shelley
Please join us in the University of Manitoba Archives next Thursday evening, May 2, at 7:30 pm for a stimulating talk by Danny Schur about his role in making the film "Stand!"
about the Winnipeg General Strike of 1919. A reception follows. And pop by to see the exhibit of photographs and documents about the Strike, including
an original baton, arm band and badge used by the special constables during the Strike that we borrowed from the Winnipeg Police Museum. Shelley

Subject: 1919 conference - documentary inquiry
Hi Jim,
Thanks for the callback yesterday. Just to recap, I am just wondering if I may send my director Erika MacPherson to film a couple panelists at the conference?
We are producing a small documentary for CBC Manitoba about the monument being created to commemorate the 1919 strike - this of course is the monument of the tipped over railcar from Bloody Saturday which will go up at Market Square. To illustrate the continuity to today, filming some current issues and events would help the supporting story for the documentary. Erika would like to come on her own [no camera crew] with a camera to film some of your panelists [only with their prior permission of course]. Please let me know if this is something you could support.
I am happy to answer any questions you may have.
Many thanks for your consideration,

Hi All:
I haven't given this much thought until now, having been up to my eyeballs in teaching and then marking, but I am guessing that there must be a 30-minute space on the program for me to have a mini-launch of my recently published book, Radical Housewives: Price Wars and Food Politics in Mid-Twentieth Century Canada. It came out in March and has not yet been launched, and I would love to have an opportunity to launch it at our conference. I was thinking there would be a half-hour when we gather at the Goodwill. I could set up a table and give a short description and people who were, for some strange reason, uninterested could talk in a different section of the room. Or maybe there's another spot on the program I haven't thought of.
What do people think?

Read her comments below.
She’s fine with filming, but also asks that we clip soundbitey bits from the larger piece for social media uploads.
She says, overall, that she “really doesn’t care” re: live-streaming, but slightly prefers if we don’t.

> I slightly prefer you don’t live stream, but rather, tape and make it available on line later. On the other hand, I don’t really care. What I do ask is that whoever does the video makes themselves available to me for 2-3 small versions of 2-3 minutes of my choosing, shortly after the event. Meaning, I am starting to get these little video snippets that people apparently find useful by asking groups that tape me to let me look at it, pick the best points I make, and, post them to twitter and on my website. For Twitter, it’s max 2 minute clips (Jane learning this shit later in life is so annoying). But if there’s a good point made that might be valuable for the masses, it might be up to 5 minutes and posted on my website.
