Maskwa Photography Retreat

Hey everyone! The UMPhotoClub is organizing a photography retreat to a cabin called The Maskwa Project, Alexander, MB. It is about an hour and a half drive from campus. The retreat is member only and costs $25 per person. It will be 2 days and 1 night, we leave on Thursday, February 20th at noon and come back by Friday, February 21st evening. The fee covers accommodations, food and transport. We would be taking 3-4 cars, if you can drive and are available, please come talk to us. We have a cap of maximum 15 people, so register as early as you can, you can opt out a week before the trip and if you register after the 12th, there will be a wait-list. People who opt out after the 13th will not get their money back as we would have booked the cabin by then. Everyone going must be 18 or older. Intro to photography workshop

Hey everyone! We will be hosting a short workshop on an introduction to photography. It will be covering the basics of operation a camera, getting a good exposure and answering any questions from people who are new to photography. It will be held in room 221 in E2 (Engineering) at 5PM on Friday January 24th, 2020. We will also be going on a walkabout on Saturday, the 25th of January to the Forks. We will meet at the Forks at 1 PM. If you have a ride and can take some people with you from campus, it'll be much appreciated. Invent for the Planet, a 48-hour, sustainability-focused international idea and design competition, is open to all students (undergraduate and graduate) from all faculties and post-secondary institutions across Manitoba. In the competition, interdisciplinary student teams of four to six are tasked with solving issues in areas such as waste management, food security, environment, education, digital technology, agriculture, and medicine/medical systems and delivery. Walkabout this Saturday

Hello everyone We'll be having the first walkabout this Saturday on the 9th of November at 2 pm. We'll meet up at the darkroom and leave from there. We will be going to the Assiniboine Park, walk around take some pictures and find a place to eat at the nearby restaurants. Meet and Greet and Giveaway

Hello all, First, apologies for having to reschedule the event. The weather has just been weird but we'll work our way around it. The Meet and Greet is now on this Friday on the 27th of September, at 5PM at the Fireplace Lounge. The fireplace lounge is located just outside the bookstore. We will introduce ourselves and then do a short photo exercise with props. A prop could be a toy or a scarf. Be creative and all shots taken should have your prop in them. This is a fun way to exercise your creativity. We also have 3 giveaways for 2 Film SLRs and 1 point and shoot film camera. Any and all members who have joined recently and will have paid the joining fee of $20 will be entered to win one of these film cameras. Hello Everyone! In case you have not had a chance to check the Darkroom 116 facebook group, here are the events coming up in the next few weeks. You can scroll down to read about each of the events. - *Wednesday, Feb 6th at 5 pm: Campus walkabout* (starting at the darkroom) - *Friday, Feb 8th at 5:30 pm: Editing workshop* (@ EITC E3 270) you can meet us in the darkroom a few minutes before if you're not sure where that is - *Wednesday, Feb 13th at 5 pm: Photo composition and Critical analysis workshop *location will be announced next week. - *Feb 18th - 20th: Maskwa trip!* *Campus walkabout:* If you are a new member and haven't been to a walkabout with us yet, this will be a great chance to experience taking pictures with other photographers and exercise your creative muscles. We will be bringing a few extra film cameras with us for those of you who don't have cameras yet but want to try out film photography. we will have a few 12 exposure rolls of 400 iso film ready for you which are $3 each. If you have been a member of the club for a while and haven't had the chance to come to a lot of events lately, this will be a great chance to get back into photography and help out new photographers as well. We will start from the darkroom at 5 pm and go around campus to take pictures. We might go to the Wallace building and/or the fine arts building. *Editing workshop* One of our members who have more experience with editing portraits has volunteered to do this workshop. She will be giving us some tips and tricks for editing methods that would give a natural look for portraits. The workshop will be held on the main floor (level 200) of the Engineering building E3 in room 270. * Photo composition and Critical analysis workshop * Dom Kwok is going to cover what makes a composition or breaks it, go over some sample images and then analyze some of the member's photos to show how we're doing and how it can be improved. We're talking about 20 submissions for the *anonymous* analysis and you can send your photos to umphotoclub(a)gmail.com. P.S.You don't need to submit anything to attend. Stay tuned about the location *Maskwa trip* The Maskwa trip is an annual photo club event. The club organizes a 2-night winter retreat to a cabin in Maskwa, Manitoba to get to know other members better, and to take great photographs of the serene Manitoba landscapes in winter. This year we have booked the cabin for 2 nights and 3 days. We will try to be at the cabin as early as possible on Monday morning and we will leave before Wednesday night. The costs for the trip are *$60 per person*. The cabin charges are $30 per person ($15 per night). The additional $30 will go towards food and other accommodations. We will be able to fit *20-25 people* in the cabin so I would suggest contacting us as soon as possible if you are interested. The Maskwa trip is a photoclub tradition for the club's paid members.
