Upcoming Events: UMIH Research Affiliate Talk - Dr. Melanie Dennis Unrau: Ducks, Syncrude Ducks, and Father Goose: Reading Waterfowl in the Tar Sands Thursday, April 29th 2021. 2:30 PM - 3:30 CT. Using found and erasure poetry as literary criticism, this lecture interprets early-20th-century representations of waterfowl by S.C. Ells, “the father of the tar sands,” in light of the drowning of 1600 ducks on a Syncrude tailings pond in 2008.
