Subject: Upcoming student competition - AquaHacking Lake Winnipeg,
Sent on behalf of the International Institute of Sustainable Development - asking faculty and staff to assist in promoting this challenge to students
________________________________
Good afternoon,
I'm a project coordinator with the International Institute for Sustainable Development (IISD) working on an upcoming water tech competition that may be of interest to students in the Faculty of Agricultural and Food Sciences - the AquaHacking Lake Winnipeg Challenge.
AquaHacking is an 8-month start-up competition that challenges multidisciplinary teams of students and young professionals to develop sustainable tech and engineering solutions to freshwater problems, such as those related to agriculture. The hacker teams compete for $50,000 in prizes and one of 5 spots at a start-up incubator to continue developing their solutions. The Lake Winnipeg competition is one of three regional AquaHacking Challenges across Canada and will run from late January 2020 until October 2020. More information on the competition can be found in the summary attached here or visit www.aquahacking.com<http://www.aquahacking.com> to learn about challenges from previous years.
We are currently seeking university faculty members and staff to help promote the AquaHacking Lake Winnipeg Challenge to students and would be grateful if you could circulate this information to the schools, departments, and centres affiliated with UM's Faculty of Agricultural and Food Sciences. We anticipate that AquaHacking will be of particular interest to the departments of Agribusiness & Agricultural Economics, Soil Science, the School of Agriculture, and the National Centre for Livestock and the Environment; however, participants from all disciplines are welcome and encouraged to participate.
We will be hosting an informational webinar on the AquaHacking Challenge for interested university faculty and staff members on Friday, November 22 at 2:00 PM (Central), and throughout January 2020 we will host on-campuses info sessions on AquaHacking for students and other potential participants.
Please contact me with any questions.
Thank you,
Catherine van Reenen

Subject: Fw: Barrett-Hamilton Memorial Lecture
Hi Martha,
The Biological Sciences Graduate Student Association at the University of Manitoba is hosting our annual Barrett-Hamilton Memorial Lecture Series. The speaker this year is Dr. Julia Baum of the University of Victoria, she'll be giving a talk about climate change. I thought it may be of some interest to the students in your department and was hoping you could let them know about it.
The lecture is on Thursday, October 17th from 7:30-8:30pm in the Robert B. Schultz theatre on campus of the University of Manitoba (see attached poster for more details). Please let me know if you have any questions.
Thank you,
Tamanna YAsmin
