The Progress Report deadline is June 1, 2019. Please forward completed progress reports to Martha. She will send them to the Faculty of Graduate Studies and make copies for student files. Progress report forms: http://umanitoba.ca/faculties/graduate_studies/media/Progress_Report_2019.p… Printed forms will be available at the front desk in the Soil Science General Office. Please note that it is the responsibility of the advisor, not the student, to ensure that student progress is reviewed. Ph.D. students are required to meet with their entire Advisory Committee to review progress. The Advisor/Co-Advisor, the members of the Advisory Committee, and the student must all sign the PR form. Signatures on the PR indicate that all parties are aware of the results of the student’s progress. Master’s Students (Thesis Route): Master’s students in the thesis route are required to meet with their thesis Advisor/Co-Advisor to review progress. They may also meet with their Advisory Committee depending on the stage they are at in their program. Signatures on the PR indicate that all parties are aware of the results of the student’s progress. At a minimum, the following questions should be taken into consideration at the time of the progress review. · Is the cumulative GPA 3.0 or higher? · Has all required coursework been completed? · Are all grades ‘C+’ or greater? · Are there any missing or ‘IP’ (in progress) grades? · Are there any ‘CO’ (continuing) grades that will require tracking? · Is the student on track time-wise and/or are they running out of time? · Is the student meeting the program requirements? · For thesis and practicum students, has the Advisor Student Guidelines form been completed? · Has GRAD 7500 Academic Integrity Tutorial been completed? PLEASE REMEMBER: PRs are not required for students who are graduating in May or October 2019, who are currently on an FGS-approved Leave of Absence for both Fall 2018 and Winter 2019 terms. It is important to note that if a student does not graduate as scheduled by October 2019, a PR will need to be completed and they must re-register for September 2019. Ensure that PR forms are photocopied onto YELLOW paper.

Information for all Master’s and Ph.D. students who are continuing in their programs*: All graduate students are required to register every academic term which includes Fall, Winter and Summer. If students do not register by June 15, 2019, they will be discontinued from their program of study. As Summer 2019 term is approaching, ensure you are registered for the re-registration course: Course # Term CRN Master's Re-registration GRAD 7020 Summer 2019 1600 Doctoral Re-registration GRAD 8020 Summer 2019 1605 This re-registration should be over and above any course registration(s) you complete. So long as you are in a re-registration course for each term, you will retain status in your graduate program even if you withdraw from other courses. *MBA and MPA students: if you need to register for re-registration only, please contact your departmental/unit graduate program assistant. Exceptions to Summer 2019 term re-registration: o Students on a Parental or Exceptional Leave do not have to register in the term(s) for which this kind of leave is approved. Students on a Regular Leave are still required to register for the re-registration course in each term. * Students who anticipate graduating in May 2019 are not required to register for the Summer 2019 term. Note: Students who anticipate graduating in October 2019 must register for their final Thesis/Practicum/Comprehensive Exam/Project or the final course specific to their program in Summer 2019 term. Compulsory GRAD 7500 Academic Integrity Tutorial Academic Integrity is a matter of paramount importance in academia. It is the foundation of scholarly work. Breeches of Academic Integrity, whether intentional or unintentional, have potentially very serious consequences to a student’s status in the Faculty of Graduate Studies and at the University of Manitoba. To help graduate students better understand the issues surrounding Academic Integrity, the Senate of the University of Manitoba passed a motion that requires all graduate students to take a compulsory tutorial on Academic Integrity. All graduate students must register for and complete GRAD 7500 Academic Integrity Tutorial one time. This is a zero (0) credit-hour course intended to introduce students to their basic responsibilities regarding academic integrity and to the resources available to them. Graduate Students who are starting their graduate program in Summer 2019, or who have not yet registered for the course, must register for GRAD 7500: Course Term CRN GRAD 7500 Summer 2019 1929 GRAD 7500 (French version for USB students only) Summer 2019 1927 Failure to successfully complete this course within the first term of registration will result in suspension of registration privileges, and ultimately, a failed grade and Required to Withdraw action. Note: o Please only register for GRAD 7500 once. The scholarships, valued at up to the international differential tuition fee amount, will be offered to graduate students who: (1) are international students (i.e., those in Canada on study permits); (2) are enrolled full-time in the Faculty of Graduate Studies in Ph.D. program; (3) are paying the international student differential tuition fee; (4) have achieved a minimum grade point average of 3.5 based on their last 60 credit hours (or equivalent) of study or last equivalent two full years; (5) are not recipients of external award funding that pays for their tuition. If you are planning to transfer from a Master's to a PhD program, or to apply for a PhD program next year, you should submit an IGSS application before the deadline.
