FYI Dear Graduate Students, So far I have not received the confirmation to attend the meeting with Angela Bedard-Haughn from any student from Soil Science. It will be important to know what Angela Bedard-Haughn can offer as a new dean. She is a Soil Scientist, however, so far Nobody from Soil Science has confirm the attendance. As part of the process to select our new dean, a desert meeting has been planned, in which graduate students can chat and ask questions to the candidates for the Dean of Agricultural and Food Sciences position. The meeting with Dr. Angela Bedard-Haughn will be on Thursday, May 24th, 2018, from 12:45 to 1:30 in Room 252 Agriculture Building. In the past, these courses had cost students between $140 and $160 per course. This cost has been reduced to $30 per course. Seventy (70) awards are distributed equally across CIHR, NSERC, and SSHRC. The 2018-19 competition has been officially launched, as of today. The Banting application deadline will be September 19, 2018. As per the University’s internal process for previous Banting Postdoctoral Fellowships program competitions, there will be an internal deadline to allow for a more thorough selection process and additional time to help develop strong applications. This internal deadline has been set as JULY 25, 2018. By this deadline, all sections of the application must be completed with the exception of the Letter of Endorsement attachment, which will be completed only for those applications selected to be submitted to the competition following internal review by an expert panel. For those applicants invited to submit a full application to the Banting program, all sections of the revisedapplication taking into consideration the panel members comments along with the FAAF, must be completed and submitted to the Office of Research Services by September 13, 2018. Researchers are encouraged to visit the Banting Postdoctoral Fellowships Website (www.banting.fellowships-bourses.gc.ca<http://www.banting.fellowships-bourses.gc.ca/>) to review the program guidelines and eligibility criteria to identify possible candidates for this prestigious award. Ivarson Soil Science Scholarship provides financial support to a student entering the second or subsequent year of graduate studies in soil science (in the areas of agriculture, environment, geology, agro-ecology or other related disciplines) at a Canadian university. Name: William Wilson Muir Graduate Fellowship Description: With an initial gift of $25,000 in 1997, Jean Elizabeth established an endowment fund at the University of Manitoba to honour her late husband, William Wilson Muir of Roland, Manitoba. The purpose of this fund is to support graduate students working in a research-based graduate program focusing on agronomy in the Faculty of Agricultural and Food Sciences. Each year, beginning in 2017-2018, the available annual income from the fund will be used to offer one fellowship to a graduate student who: (1) is enrolled full-time in the Faculty of Graduate Studies, in a M.Sc. or Ph.D. degree program delivered by a department in the Faculty of Agricultural and Food Sciences; (2) has obtained a minimum grade point average of 3.5 (or equivalent) based on the last 60 credit hours of study; (3) submits an application which consists of a one to two page (maximum 500 words) description of their research interest; (4) submits a letter of support from their graduate supervisor or proposed graduate supervisor. Preference will be given to Canadian citizens, Permanent Residents, and to graduates of Canadian universities. The Fellowship is not automatically renewable but previous recipients may reapply. If the selection committee deems there to be two students of equal merit for this Fellowship, and if the funds are available from the unspent revenue allocation, a second award of equal value can be offered. Recipients may hold the William Wilson Muir Graduate Fellowship concurrently with any other awards, consistent with policies in the Faculty of Graduate Studies. Entrance: Deadline April 1st, 2018 (If this falls on a weekend, the deadline will be the following Monday).
