This cohort’s research focus will be ‘the Intersection of Trade, Environment, and Food Security’ and will cover five research papers, webinars, workshops, an advisory council, and professional development over the next two years. CAPI proposes that our next Doctoral Fellowship Program develop expertise, original tools and strategies to identify the pressures on Canada’s land base arising from agricultural producers who are reacting to the new more uncertain trade environment, record high commodity prices, climate change and global food security concerns, by innovating and transforming their decision-making. CAPI aims to create a dynamic, innovative and transdisciplinary research network specializing in this field. The program will run over two years (2022-2024) and will be guided by a mentoring and advisory team of industry, government and academic experts drawn from CAPI’s extensive stakeholder network. CAPI will fund up to four Ph.D. students whose research focuses on either the economic, social, legal or environmental aspect of trade in agriculture and agri-food products, responding to scarcity and the new higher price environment, climate change and global food security concerns both at home and abroad. In this applied stats course, students get to work with data from their current thesis research or another study. Those who do not yet have data to work with may work on an analysis plan for their future data, in addition to experimental design and treatment layout of their planned thesis research. Students are expected to have a good background in statistics, preferably at the graduate level. Typically, students who take this course will have taken ANSC 7500 Methodology in Agricultural and Food Sciences, or an equivalent, although this in not a requirement. Knowledge of SAS will be an asset, but not a requirement. Attached is an outline from Fall 2021. This may change to reflect the specific needs of students registered for the course.
