Hello,
We are writing today to share our call for applications for the 2022 O’Brien Graduate Fellowships.
The O’Brien Graduate Fellowships were established in 2005 through a very generous gift from David O’Brien for outstanding Masters or Doctoral students studying in the area of human rights and legal pluralism in the Faculty of Law, McGill University.
O’Brien Fellows become members of the Centre for Human Rights and Legal Pluralism, a focal point for innovative legal and interdisciplinary research, dialogue, and outreach on human rights and legal pluralism. The Fellowships for LLM students are valued at up to a maximum of $25,000 per annum, tenable for 1 year. For DCL students the Fellowships are valued at $35,000 per annum, renewable twice (if eligibility is maintained).
Successful applicants will have an outstanding academic record and a strong research proposal in the field of human rights and legal pluralism. The deadline for O’Brien Fellowship applications is December 19, 2021.
This Fellowship Program is an entrance scholarship. Applicants for this scholarship must also simultaneously submit an application for admission to one of our graduate programs<https://mcgill.ca/law/grad-studies/admissions-guide> by the stipulated deadline.
We have included the call for applications—in English, French, and Spanish—with this email. We would be grateful if these were shared with your network.
Thank you,
Kayla Rolland

Constitutional Rights and Freedoms in Canada: Critical Reflections & Engagement (conference on April 8, 2022)
As we approach the 40th anniversary of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms and the constitutional recognition of Indigenous rights, it is timely to reflect upon the impact of these constitutional reforms. This workshop is aimed at mobilizing and sharing critical reflections regarding the meaning and application of diverse constitutional rights and freedoms, including theoretical, comparative, and interdisciplinary perspectives. It will provide an occasion to share past research and explore potential future research collaborations.
Participation in the workshop (for those presenting) would involve preparing a short think piece (1,000-2,000 words) on a topic related to the constitutional rights entrenched in 1982. Others may simply be interested in attending.
We would greatly appreciate hearing from you about your interest in participating by September 30th, including the issue/question you would likely explore in your short think piece. Email: human.rights(a)mcill.ca<mailto:human.rights@mcill.ca>.

Dear CAHRI representatives,
I hope you had a lovely summer and will have the chance to enjoy a few additional days before the start of classes next week.
Here are some elements related to the institutional set up for CAHRI, mentioned in the last minutes (May 2021 meeting) so you can follow up.
Please note that Dr. Shannonbrooke Murphy will be Acting Director of the AHRC (St. Thomas University) over the next year while Christina Szurlej is on sabbatical so send your updates for the CAHRI webpage<https://wp.stu.ca/ahrc/association-of-canadian-human-rights-institutes/> to her at sbmurphy(a)stu.ca<mailto:sbmurphy@stu.ca>. Welcome and thank you in advance, Shannonbrooke!
1. Each member should identify one representative. This person will appear as the contact for the institution in the CAHRI webpage.
2. Each member can promote initiatives (programmes, courses, competitions, publications, etc.) on the CAHRI webpage.
3. Each member can use the listserv (write to hr-research-centres(a)lists.umanitoba.ca<mailto:hr-research-centres@lists.umanitoba.ca>) to share information about research initiatives, events and advocacy actions, etc.
Lastly, just a reminder that if you know of other academic groups that could be a part of CAHRI, you can send me suggestions to vfernand(a)uottawa.ca<mailto:vfernand@uottawa.ca> .
Very best wishes for a good academic year 2021-22,
Viviana
