Western Grains Research Foundation Endowment Fund Graduate Scholarship
The Western Grains Research Foundation provides a contribution of $100,000 every three years*, to offer renewable graduate scholarships for students at the University of Manitoba. The purpose of the scholarships is to support and encourage top students to further their studies in crop research, to generate improved technology and productivity for western crop producers. Every three years, there will be either two scholarships with a minimum value of $25,000 each for Master's students, or one scholarship with a
minimum value of $33,000 for a Doctoral student. The scholarships will be offered to graduate students who:
(1) are enrolled full-time in the Faculty of Graduate Studies in the first year of a Master's
or Doctoral program delivered by the Department of Plant Science or the Department of Soil Science;
(2) have achieved a minimum degree grade point average of 3.5 (or equivalent) based on the last 60 credit hours of study (or equivalent);
(3) have proposed to undertake thesis research in the area of crop research (major field crops including grains and oilseeds).
Preference will be given to candidates who hold an undergraduate degree from a Canadian university. Candidates will be required to submit an application that will consist of: (a) a description of their proposed research project (maximum 500 words), (b) a current curriculum vitae, (c) a current academic transcript(s), and (d) two academic letters of reference from professors at a post-secondary institution.
The Scholarship is renewable for either one or two years for Master's and Doctoral students, respectively, provided that the recipient:
(1) continues to be registered full-time in the Faculty of Graduate Studies, in a Master's or Doctoral program delivered by the Department of Plant Science or the Department of Soil Science;
(2) has maintained a minimum degree grade point average of 3.5 (or equivalent) based on the last 60 credit hours of study (or equivalent);
(3) has submitted a satisfactory progress report to his or her supervisory committee.
In the event that a recipient does not qualify for renewal of the award, the selection committee may offer the scholarship to a new recipient who meets the selection criteria.
Normally, the Western Grains Research Foundation Endowment Fund Graduate
Scholarship may not be held with any other award valued at $10,000 or greater, including University awards and external awards funded by provincial or federal government programs.
* The first gift of $100,000 will be made in June 2011 and will be followed up every third year. The Western Grains Research Foundation Endowment Fund Graduate Scholarship will be reviewed after the third $100,000 gift from the WGRF to determine whether to continue with the scholarships and if any amendments are required.

Thanks Mario.
All,
This information is for all graduate students and supervisors. The
Guidelines and Ethics course is required for all U of M graduate students.
My experience has been that any coursework requirement that has not been
met is not communicated by FGS until they do their check when a student is
ready to graduate. That is not a great time to discover additional
coursework requirements.
Please be diligent about ensuring that all graduate students complete this
course.
Paul

Paul, one more thing. From talking with students in Communications, it is
clear not all students understood they needed to do the Supervisor-Students
guidelines and the ethics course. It could be a good thing to remind
faculty of these needs for all grad students.
Cheers,
Mario

Subject: [psu-hris] Incorrect mailing Address & T4- T4A Slips time sensitve
Hello everyone I am hoping you will be able to share this request with your team members and your students.
The attached document is for your students areas, I would so appreciate if it can be posted so all can see
For your fellow coworkers, if a reminder email can be sent requesting them to update their mailing address in ESS (if required)- side note: while the bulk of the employees receive electronic copies and /or are mailed to the department however we have a large number of employees that might end/or have ended before T slips are printed at which point we mail them to the address on file (i.e. not in an active status, EE on leaves etc)
Students need to update Aurora and if they have payments from HRIS system they will also need to send in a change request to hris(a)umanitoba.ca<mailto:hris@umanitoba.ca> .
Employees that do not have access to ESS will need to submit their request to hris(a)umanitoba.ca<mailto:hris@umanitoba.ca> .
If the student updated their info in Aurora before end of day Jan 29/2016 we will be able to capture the correct data on the student side for T4A from Banner.
ESS and emails - changes received after Feb 4/2016 cannot be guaranteed for T4 / T4A from HRIS System
We receive large numbers of returned T slips and request for reprints every year and we are hoping this will help to reduce those numbers
As always I apprecaite your help!
